    Sure it can, but it will probably be a lot harder for a beginner to learn on. You have to remember these are professionals applying their skills to a cheap violin. It will be a lot harder for a beginner to make sound good. But it’s certainly good enough to learn on I guess.

    This is what helped me pick my violin. Which I picked today because I wanted to give the violin a go I found this violin in different colors on Walmart’s website for only $70-90 and it comes with a shoulder protection, a tuner, the case, the bow of course and a little book on how to play. I thought the best violins were the expensive ones but when I saw this that’s when I knew this was what I was meant to play.

    Thank you for the great demo and showing that cheap budget violins have come a long way. I bought a cheap "VSO" violin recently and it blows my old "real" violin bought from a professional violin shop decades ago ( at significantly more money ) out of water! I just want to play some nice pop music on my violin and it's outstanding for that. One caveat is that most of these cheap violins do not come with properly sized bridge and string rests too high on the nut. So it requires some work to set that up properly.

    You won't believe the tone you got out of those shiny Steel Strings. They're a tad bit thinner to facilitate good bowing technique.

    I took my MV300, wet sanded it with 2500 grit followed with polishing compound. With the color and shading it looks like and expensive violin now. I switched the junky tailpiece and put a much better ebony one that I lightened and only has one fine tuner now. The sound post is now in the correct spot and I lowered the action and tuned the bridge, and put D'Addario Pro Arte stings on it. The sound was greatly improved, and I'm currently hitting it with a Tonerite for a week that should open up the tone. It's actually a decent violin.

    Is the Violin lightweight or does it feel a bit heavy? And are you satisfied with the color ? Is it too matte?

  • @helloviolin9359

    @helloviolin9359

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Lover Boy, I didn't find the violin itself to be especially heavy. The color is more of a personal preference. I didn't mind it, but keep in mind that none of the inexpensive violins have natural wood color. I compared three of these violins (see comparisons and some closeup shots here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4Zs1sdvYJXWqKw.html), and they all looked equally unnatural to me, while doing their best to emulate the wood color :) I would probably prefer the matte vs. glossy varnish, but as long as it doesn't take away the tone, either way should be fine as long as you like it.

  • @helloviolin9359

    @helloviolin9359

    I'm trying to remember... I ordered three different violins at the same time and one of them came with the bridge in a separate compartment. I'm pretty sure Mendini MV300 came with the bridge assembled plus an extra one. That said, it's totally possible that the bridge would fall off or break in the shipping process. Here's a video on how to install the bridge in case it's helpful: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fo1kqdR6pKjRZLg.html

    Skill, skill, skill. 10,000 hours or what. As a beginner I didn't fall for the snobbish 'how expensive can I make this' folks don't be put off by cheap equipment - it's now in reach of anyone. Ask the lady playing this above. 90% hard work, 10% equipment.

  • @henrys3629

    Provided they don't goof your bridge at the music store and $250 later you have a great instrument. Then you go to sell it and now it's a used Mendini with $250+ into it. Toss the original strings in the trash or hang pictures with them.

    She is playing with a really good bow. If you buy a cheap violin. Buy a decent bow. Then it will sound a lot better. You can get a permanbouco bow for around £20 that will do you fine. The bow that comes with the cheap violin is no good in my opinion

    The problem with any video like this is that a professional string player is going to have decades of muscle strength and accuracy, ear training, and fine motor adjustment abilities that any other human--especially young people and children--will not have. When you begin a string instrument, especially as a child, or physically developing young person, it is imperative that you have a quality instrument that isn't going to be going out of tune every few minutes (after the strings have been broken in, of course), doesn't take extreme amounts of strength to create a quality bow sound, and is easy to play. Cheap instruments often fall out of tune quickly, have harsh or inconsistent sound quality, and often require more than a modicum of strength to create a clear or smooth sound, especially on the E string...all of which can be immediate deterrants to a beginner player loving or continuing with their learning. You don't need to spend a million bucks...but the logic behind this vid, I feel, is not sound when it comes to choosing a beginner instrument.

    PS--a true pro can make ANY instrument sound impressive. That tells you little about the instrument and everything about the pro's abilities.
