That's right the Defender Xtreme Survival/Tactical knife! Ok, its nothing to get that excited about. Testing this Survival knife is more of a example of sometimes you get exactly what you pay for. If you are serious about prepping and survival please do your research. Are there some GOOD cheap knives, of course but make sure you do your home work. Pushing a very cheaply made knife to it's breaking point can result in injury, please be careful. So sit back, relax and enjoy the video!

I actually got a defender Xtreme knife but mine is way better than the one in the video it's all one piece of metal handle and blade are made from just one piece of metal my only real concern is the grade of metal it's made from. But it'll do what I need it to no problem.

Demolitia! My wife decided to buy my fixed blade knife for Valentine's Day and ended up getting me a knife that cost around $11. After spending a lot of time trying to find info on it, I couldn't even find what steel it's made from. Came with a very crap nylon sheath and a ferro rod that doesn't throw a single spark no matter what you use to strike it 😉 She thought it "looks nice and has that cord stuff you're always braiding" At least it's a single piece so it's got a full tang (wrapped in string, not paracord) and it's extremely light. Any form of chopping is an exercise in futility, but as it turns out when you remove the string wrap it's surprisingly well balanced and is an excellent thrower. So it wasn't a total waste of money. Heart heart was in the right place so I told her how "great it is". Even when you're on a budget, it's better to spend a bit more, save up and get something decent in the $50-$100 range or put money aside and get something like the Gerber Strongarm or Glock FM 81, both of which are nearly indestructible.

Yes the Gerber Strongarm, think I called it the strong hold by mistake in the video.

Surprisingly Worth the Money: $13 gets you 2 Cheap 1/4" thick 6 inch long Ferro Rods. $10 Gets you 2 Cheap Carbon Steel "Knives" that each come with those silly TINY ferro rods, and a sweet little sheath. I damn near set my bed on fire Showering it with Sparks when I tried scraping the Giant Rod with the cheesy little 'knife'... So The knife I named Striker, and bagged each up with a Giant Rod, and stuck a Bag into each of a couple bug out/survival bags... The Rods said they were good for 20,000 strikes - That's like 20 years assuming you had to use it EVERY Day, 3 times a day... Of course, in 50 years, In just about EVERY kind of weather, Personally, I've never needed anything OTHER than a Bic lighter, but....

THIS Knife is a copy or clone of a Spanish hunting knife from the Aitor brand, the saw is designed to cut the tendons and cartilage of game, not wood or anything else, the original is much better it goes without saying

The original knife that this copy is based on, is the "Aitor Oso Negro". A military knife from Spain thats actually a really good quality knife. The mayority or at least a big chunk of cheap chinese knives are copies of Spanish or German knives like that Harbor Freight knife wich is a copy of the jungle king l.

i think this video is delayed by a like half a second because you can hear the sound before you see the action happening. Especially noticeable at 5:39

I haven't batoned a knife yet, that hasn't broken at some point. The kabar lasted the longest with over 200 whacks. And broke 3 knives in one weekend last summer. However, one of them was the cheap rambo jungle survivor, which the blade come out of the handle the first swing. Skeletonized knives will break quickly, save those for thrusting.

I Must have been doing it wrong all These DECADES... In almost 60 years of camping I have NEVER needed to EVER use ANY tool to EVER break Firewood. I Have NEVER needed anything other than a simple pen knife to CUT any kind of Cordage. I Did - on a number of occasions, need to use my lockback to open a can of beans, because I didn't feel like dumping out my pack to find my P-38, BUT! So - Let me ask one REAL question - What are YOU Selling. This Item was made for 12 year olds, or 40+ men, who wren 't allowed to play with knives when they were 12. Or for anyone who just saw RamBow... Honestly, WHO in their right mind EVER CHOPS firewood when camping? How MANY times have you EVER actually needed to build a LOG Cabin? Since NO BackPacker in their right mind would EVER carry this Giant Chunk of Steel, Obviously you have a car - Why didn't you bring the Axe?

Well I'm not selling anything. You obviously missed the entire point of the video. A GOOD Survival Knife should be able to do these things. It was more to point out that if you buy cheap, you get cheap. Just because something might look cool, doesn't mean it's good. Hope that helps.

  • @KandaJE

@@NWPreparedness You are absolutely correct! I Missed the Entire point! That's why I asked! WHY does ANYONE ever need to use a Short Sword to do the job of an AXE? Why does Anyone ever need a Short Sword to do ANYTHING? Unless you are fighting in a Roman Colosseum... WHY would Batoning be the job of a GOOD Survival Knife? When Batoning is just a Stupid Silly Idea used as a Desperate LAST resort? Now I suppose you are Going to make the Mistake of Suggesting that Using a Front Mounted Winch to Lower your Jeep down a 50 foot Cliff is a "Survival Skill"? I mean You COULD do it, IF you had to, Right? Unless of course, You are actually SELLING front mounted Winches. Which is why I wondered if, perhaps, YOU were selling Short Swords... The POINT - %99.9 of People will NEVER be in a situation where Batoning a piece of GREEN LIVING Tree to make FireWood with a Short Sword is SURVIVAL! So Acting like That's the NORMAL is LYING! Oh, and just to point out the other Lie - You ARE Selling! At least you are Trying to Sell - Videos? Your Last Sentence was MUCH Closer to the Truth! Us Old people learned it slightly Differently - Things are What you pay for them. Most of the time... "Quality is worth the money, most of the time' You and I are in agreement. The Thing is a Piece of Junk. My ENTIRE point is Use the Correct Tool for the Job! Why HACK at a tree limb when you can either just stomp on it to break it, or just stick the end in the fire and burn it like a Yule LOG? Why Spend so much time and energy hacking at it with a Short Sword? Use your Freakin' AXE. The ONLY time, in 50 years of camping, that I COULDN'T find Dead Wood just Laying on the ground, enough to burn all night - Was in a Camp Ground populated by hundreds of others people on a 4th of July Weekend. Better to just find a different Camp Ground...
