Chavis or Renegade - Which Did I Choose?
Ойын-сауық
Wanted to do a video talking about two vendors I was looking at when considering my LS Swap supplier and which one I decided to go with for our project.

I didn’t even know about Chavis, so thanks for bringing them to my attention! It’s always good to have competition, and options. I’m looking forward to seeing your build progress!

No troubles. The car should be started for the first time in just a couple days and I'll be sure to post a video of that! I also will be doing a "lessons learned" video along with costs.
Only problem i have with Chavis page is no videos of running cars with his swap kit. I did see one on Stay Tune you tube channel.

That’s fair, but there are a few channels you can find here of people that used his kit and with the car running. Plus he does post on Instagram of running cars.
It was obvious that you were going with Chavis from the beginning of the video!

Well since I already did purchase - yes. But I did research both companies and shared why I decided on Chavis.
Great summary. I am looking for a 997 with a bad motor to do the swap. Where did you find yours? Any suggestions on where to look besides Craigslist and Facebook marketplace?

I found mine on Marketplace - seems a lot more get posted there than Craigslist. I’d also contact Chavis as he seems to have rollers for sale a lot.

Auction sites occasionally have non running, tho lately people have been over bidding. Good luck
I’ve heard that the Chavis requires less cutting particularly of structural steel. I heard some buyers complaining about structural strength on both Renegade 911 and Boxter/Cayman conversion kits, also CV axle angle. I wouldn’t think the 944 or 928 Renegade would be affected as much.

Hard for me to compare as I didn’t do the Renegade kit. The CPE one is pretty solid, but not complete and you have to figure a bunch out on your own. I’m getting close to the end and plan to do a full lessons learned video.
I felt the same when looking at their websites. Renegade seemed to hide their stuff. I have heard the Renegade has good instructions with their kit and that Chavis basically has none. What's your experience?

CPE is limited indeed, but they do respond to questions and there is a good support community. That said, I do know they are working on a lot of instruction videos / documents to help out a lot more. I'm trying to document as much as makes sense in my series to help others until such time as they release theirs.
Hi Aaron, have yiu got the LS mounted already? I would like to stop by and have a look one day. I will bring mike M. And beer Talk soon Tom

Yup she’s a running driving car already. Have some things I want to change and do differently in the winter - but that’s just making it better stuff.
Look forward to following the journey. My 997 has a knock and metallic oil. Don't know what I'm gonna do yet. Sell as a shell, oe engine swap, or LS swap.

Thanks for following along! Ooof I’m sorry to hear about your engine. It sure seems that 2000-08 can be a bit of a gamble. I bought this one with the engine blown, so I didn’t have that terrible moment. There are always people looking for rollers to do the swap with though, so should be an easy sell if you go that route.

@@shadfallfan we will for sure be doing a wrap up video of all the costs etc once it’s done. Likely in a month or so - been slowed a bit waiting on parts.

@@AlsopAndSons Do you currently have an estimate as to what you believe it will be? Hoovies garage on his 996 said it cost $17k for the renegade kit
@AlsopAndSons

@@shadfallfan sounds close. It depends a lot on what you go with, but I’ll do a whole video on all my costs including optional stuff I did.
Hoovies youtube channel experience with LS swap was not encouraging vs the engine rebuild and enlargement option which about $20k (and one is warned the engine will sound different). Yikes. If my 911 engine blows up, these are all hard choices to consider. Thank you

It depends on where you are starting from for sure. I bought the car with a blown engine - and I mean blown. The chain let go, pistons blew up, case cracked... so there was nothing to rebuild. To get a used engine you roll the dice and to get a fully rebuilt engine with no core is way higher than $20k. So mine was a perfect LS swap candidate. You do get lighter weight, more torque, and more HP in a platform that is known to go over 200k miles on stock parts and is very cheap to maintain. So it really does matter on a case-by-case basis. I don't know what Hoovies ran into or what kit he used - but with most swaps like this its the electrical part that can get you, which CPE seems to solve well. That said, I am writing this before I start it for the first time - which should be about 3 weeks from now as I just have to fabricate the exhaust next.
