I love my 229’s. I got into them because of one of your videos. Now I have four, lol. I have smaller hands and it’s still my favorite edc.

I just picked one up from BHQ with the kickstop & jade / titanium scales for 200. Just arrived today and wow.... What an awesome knife.

Just picked up the 229 Tanto with Kickstop this weekend! Love it!

Love the the sound those kickstop knives make...I wish I could get one with the wharncliffe blade shape, but I've never seen them available.

This and a manual Stitch of on my must get list for this year. And it has to be a Kickstop and tanto. I might go for that chisel grind too. Seems like it would be easier to sharpen. Only 1 bevel to worry about. I wonder if you lose or gain thickness behind the edge with it.

I have 2 Chaves 229s both carbon fiber, 1 drop point, 1 tanto... I love them both... I won the tanto on a raffle. My next one is going to be a kickstop version

The thumbstud 229 tanto was my first grail knife, it took a couple years for them to be dropped again (I wasn't going to pay the prices on the secondary market) but now I'm the same way, I've got probably 5 or6 of the Chaves Ultramar knives. Right now I'm torn between these 229 kickstop versions (especially the chisel grind) with the micarta inlay or the full ti Scapegoat that's about to drop, can't decide which one I like better. I was starting to lean towards the Scapegoat until I saw this video (since I already have a 229 just not a kickstop version) but now I'm starting to reconsider. Plus I don't have a knife with a chisel grind and I'm curious to see how it would work for me and what it feels like to use.

I have a dm gold cf in 20CV black pvd blade kickstop exclusive from WOK. It even came with a special chavez key numbered. I think all other kickstops are in M390? I could be wrong? Minus Damasteel

Hey Metal, Non relation question... but would you consider the s35vn vision FG with carbon fiber scales over the manix 2? About $50-100 difference but the vision LOOKS better to me

I had the 228 midtech so I definitely have to get the one with thumb studs. Either thumb studs or thumb holes.

I have the "standard" 229 with the flipper and it goes with me everywhere. Even gets to rest on my nightstand next to me.

I bought the Blade HQ Exclusive Redencion 229 Kickstop in Carbon Fiber w/black blade configuration. $249. My first higher-end knife!

I like the inlays. Especially on sebenzas.

Bladehq had a number of 229 kickstops on sale for 280$ almost got that. Went to the liberation instead. I have a 229 street version. Absolutely love it. Fills the hand nicely. It's a man feeling knife. I love them.

The screws on the front of the clip are fuggly. Love the knife I own 3

I really like the green micarta inlay one and the plain Jane one with the thumbstub. I am not a fan of the skull clips however but I see one has a more normal looking one. Do they come with both in the box so you can switch them out? Or is that a custom thing?

I have owned a few 229s drop point and tanto, also owned the liberation. All fantastic knives. I like the new kickstop version but I would like to see a better sharpening choil. I’ve never held one in hand but there doesn’t seem to be enough there.

Have you tried the urbanEDC version? Its milled and has a nice stonewash on everything

Growing up using knives here in the Mts of Appalachia (Blue Ridge & SmokiesNC) I never knew they made pocket knives smaller than the Buck 110 besides little toothpickesque 5th pocket knives until I was almost 30. Now at 39 I still find something like the Chaves 229 to be average pocket size. Interesting to see other people's perspectives of what constitutes a big carry as opposed to edc size and small etc. Now about a decade into the modern pocket knife game I still prefer an 8"-8¼" main edc with a recon 1 mini in the back pocket besides my thick @$$ trifold harley wallet I've been abusing for 15 yrs and had to hammer in new eyelets for my leather chain that keeps me wallet from sauntering off. I even keep a dainty cjrb ria to slice a nice apple off my tree or a piece of my sexy cousinwife's pie. Mmmm mmmm. Nice classy video once again MC

I just got one of the cranes cutlery special edition chaves 229 with kick stop and the mokuti clip and back spacer. It is my favorite in my collection (not a very big collection) but just like MC said this knife is tuned perfectly and you can just tell these knives are top notch

I'm as on board with Chaves and Cold Steel people are about that brand. You made my day giving them the love they deserve. Best part of the company is that the people involved in the company are all stand up people.

8 inches is huge. Too much, some might say.

They just don't do it for me. It's such a basic knife and for the cost that they are at for a Chinesium knife, not something I would ever go after.
