Chauvet DJ GigBAR 2 Review + How Would I Make It Better

Here's my review of the Chauvet DJ GigBAR 2. I like the light. I own quite a few of them and they go out all the time. The point of my review really is how would I make it better. I'm hoping someone at Chauvet DJ watches this!
Here's the replacement tripod that I buy when the included tripod fails: on-stage.com/products/view/10740 I like that it's heavy duty. I haven't had a single problem with this stand. They do not make a good case for it. It's awesome that it's multipurpose and can be used for speakers or lights. The only downside is the tube is too wide to use with a light that's designed to slip over the tube like a Chauvet DJ 4 Play.

I agree with your comments on the programming, I never use sound activation because it changes too fast. It would be good to see in all smart lights a sound mode, where it doesn’t change until it hears 2 beats, or 4 beats, or 8 beats, before it moves?

how do these look in the dark outside without smoke for the darby lights? Are the darby lights pretty much useless without smoke? I mean you can accent light the ground with them but the laser takes care of that and having those on the band might get annoying unless from the side or back of the band.

Hi man, great video. I have a question, does the Gig bar allow you to select a single color to flash when in sound mode ? To be clearer, I wanna use sound mode with just UV or Red lights, is that possible ? will all the lights on the bar still work ? Thank you so much

Great video and I'll claim myself as a fan of the gig bar really for set up and ease of use. It's hard to argue what they provide for the convenience of the setup and overall light show. Its easy to complain about things you may not want but it's nice to have it all there in case you really want to just let the whole thing play at once: laser, lights, derby, par. If I don't want one of those, you can modify it. Sometimes I just point the laser up so it's out of the way, I've put tape over the strobes before which doesn't look "awesome" but I highly doubt anyone even noticed. Anyways-my point: I'm a fan of these and would recommend to any mobile DJ. I will say though: I've used mine a bunch and I still haven't figured out the remote--I just keep pushing buttons until I land on something I like and I consciously change it every so often also to try and keep it fresh.

I agree with your points! It's our most used light for our DJ division and our most rented light in our rental division. Fast setup/teardown and ease of use definitely outweighs any programming deficiencies. My hope though is that gigbar 3 gets a little better programming built in (while still being able to use the remote).

You may have done something like this but what do you think about using mydmx go with the gigbar? Asking cause I just bought one thinking it would give me a bit of control without worrying too much about DMX. I'm not really sure what the difference is though between an IRC remote and the mydmx go. Seems like I could get away just using a remote. Ok--this is now just rambling but I'm curious about an application between mydmx go and a gigbar and if you had any thoughts.

The whole business model of the gig bar is simplicity, you can set up 2 in less than 5 mins which can be a big plus if you need to turn around a wedding if the venue is running late, I own 4 of these, if you really want to make them "shine" then set them on lighting desk, it dosent have to be anything technical. set them to 11 ch mode and this will open up a whole new set of features,

@@TheAngrySoundTech I've been playing around with mine (the instructions are....not that great!). When you hit FADE, the strobes automatically come on in "strobe" mode (meaning "flashing" like...a strobe light!). Wish that didn't happen but it does. When you hit the strobe button once, it goes into "strobe" mode (while the derbys & pars are still "fading"), where you can use the program buttons to change the patterns & stuff of the strobe effect, and the (+) and (-) buttons to control their speed. When in "strobe" mode, programs 6-9 will make the strobes UV rather than the harsh white light....which actually is not obtrusive at all when the pars & derbys are in "fade" mode. But yeah, if you don't want the strobes going at all then hit STROBE a second time and they will go out. Not great, but at least I wanted to mention that it's not just a case of when you turn on FADE you hit STROBE twice to make then go off...there is actually some control over what the strobes do when you hit the STROBE button once.

The remotes do suck at times. Make sure your remote has a fresh battery. I've gotten new gigbars where the batteries were dead on arrival. Other than that you have to make sure you hit the IR sensor as straight on as you possibly can. If you're at a sharp angle the sensor doesn't seem to pick up the signal. I know some people that prefer to use the foot pedal because that uses a different type of signal that requires the antenna. I do prefer the remote though but it can be a challenge sometimes. Just pay attention to where the IR receivers are on the gigbar. You'll always have some issues tho sadly.

That's true there can be too much strobing. We did a bar gig once where a blackjack dealer complained that the white strobe lights were flashing him in the eyes. You're out there making it happen, you survived Covid, you have my full respect, but... you're looking in the wrong direction. Chauvet isn't after your ROI. Standard rentals go 10% of new price, so you gotta get 11 outs per piece to break even. Nothing on a Gigbar stand you can't fix long term, with a pop rivet gun, drill, hacksaw, and cutoff tool. "You break it, you buy it" is standard, and won't prevent abuse or, most times, get your deals replaced but will prevent repeat offenses. Rigging wears better in road cases than cloth. The zips and sewing on the light bags aren't high tensile, but don't have to be if the lights sit right before you button em up. A couple Kandibars on top open up way more options, especially since the par cans can pull off (sorta) secondary colors. Way more photons too. All I got atm, keep on keeping on!
