idek which fanfic you read, but i'm a lot in kpop spaces and so many people there read fanfics almost exclusively, nearly no books. and from what i've gathered while talking to those people, it's so much easier falling in love with a fanfic, even if it's "badly written" or "poorly edited" cause it's the characters you know and love, the world you're familiar with, something you genuinely want more of and presumably find comfort in. i'm glad you found sth like that for yourself, even if it's not a published book, it's still a story to cherish 🥰

The serotonin rush a good fanfic can give you is -chef’s kiss- unique lmao. I’ve never felt such…. Happiness and obsession with anything than fanfics. If you enjoyed a book a lot but are unsatisfied with the ending or would like to read more about that world and its characters chances are someone else also felt the same and wrote about it ♥️

I slumped in October too! I forced myself through Shadow Cabinet even tho I wasn't feeling it, but I did enjoy the finale. I got really emotional listening to how much you lived to read the fanfic. I am very familiar to that powerful life-altering enchantment when your soul harmonizes with a story so completely, and I'm familiar with the gaping void afterwards when you finish, the grief of that.. I spend my life fiending for the next thing that can cast that spell.

When I get disenfranchised with mainstream or indie books, I turn to fanfiction for a little while. I don't know why there is a sort of stigma for those that write and/or enjoy reading fanfic but it's all storytelling. I've had some fanfic make me cry, laugh out loud, get angry and the rest of the emotive spectrum than some of the "regular" fiction out there presently is not able to accomplish. It's a whole lot of meh and when it gets to that point for either fanfic or "regular" fic, I know it's time to switch it up because a slump is starting or has already started. Slumps & comfort zones in books kind of do a disservice to authors and other readers. I applaud you for your honesty - thank you.

As an archivist I'm very happy to see the stats. It's always a little sad to be the smallest guild and not have a lot of chances to win anything but to see we all chose this one for a reason and it shows in the numbers is so cool. I also think it's very telling we didn't quite match last years amount of books/pages. I felt like I didn't have that much energy to read this year and it's reassuring that I wasn't the only one. I guess we're all collectively slumping a little these days. And last but not least, I love these chatty videos. You could talk about whatever and I'll be happy to listen to it. 😊

this is so funny to me, because I've also been reading no books, because I'm on a fanfiction kick ahahahahah but I have read a ton of fanfiction, so not new for me😋 and i think it's way easier to fall in love with fanfiction like that, because you already know and love the characters your reading about, but also because it's so much easier to filter through your preferences and find something that you specifically will love 🥰

As an archivist, I read a book for every single prompt 🎉

I too was put into a book slump earlier this year by a fanfic - the only one I've ever read and also about a very popular series I was never hugely into, but it sounded interesting and loads of people were recommending it. I could not put it down and I have not stopped thinking about it even months on lol (but am out of the slump now)

For the defense of Order of the crescent.... nothing, it happens. I usually read longer books but for so many I needed to read shorter books to complete it next to my work and I think I also read an extra book as well. So I was happy about my progress but my time just doesn't let me read more. Also, why none of my books are on the popular list? :D :D :D
