We lived in Gillingham and my mum was a Navy officer based in Chatham and every now and again, when I was a kid, I remember her having to go off for the weekend to do 'special ops' in HMS Wildfire. Although I spent a lot of time in and around the dockyard and on ships in my younger days I never got to go into Wildfire … it was all a bit hush, hush! However … as I commented in one of your other Chatham vids in the mid-eighties me and my mates used to play in those underground tunnels under the Lines and we'd discovered a set of stairs (like the ones you found) behind what used to be the old NAAFI stores along the Sally Port Gardens in Brompton (see link below). We used to call them the 'hundred and one' because that's how many steps down there were to get to the pitch black tunnels on the lower level. Blimey, how we use to try to scare the s**t out of each other! That wooded area is all gone now and covered over with that housing estate called Singapore Drive etc. I have had fun watching your other films and here's looking forward to some more … all the best. www.google.com/maps/place/Gillingham,+UK/@51.3872848,0.5343954,564m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x47d8cd0817b9b8dd:0xe439f2523e4d992b!8m2!3d51.386322!4d0.551438!16zL20vMDFueGsz?entry=ttu

I can only imagine how much history is now buried or hidden underneath that area, like I think i said before it must have been a fascinating place to explore back in the day. Shame the Wildfire rooms are not preserved and open for the public to visit, from what I've heard they are amazing! We'd love to get the opportunity to return back down this way and explore abit more when we can, I'm sure there's still so much to find. Thanks for watching and commenting, always appreciated 👍😊

The main entrance to wildfire was a building just across from the red guard hut. Back in the late 80s early 90s we use to get in through the toilet windows and explore the tunnels. The building got flattened and sadly main entrance tunnel backfilled. There are vent shafts but i could never locate those...there were also 2 massive wooden communication towers but sadly they got taken down to.

Oh really, we'd have loved to get in there for a look back in the day, sad it got vandalised so they had to seal it properly.. we did look for any signs of ventilation but didn't see anything obvious.. I'm guessing there is still some way into it somewhere but no doubt its very well protected these days.. thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 👍🙂

I used to get in that wildfire bunker when I was a kid when the navy moved out in the early eighties there used to be a door at the side of the road behind a fence where the college is now a little brick hut with a big blue metal door that was left unlocked for the first couple of years we used to jump thru the fence pull the door open and be staring down a big concrete tunnel into the darkness ha ha good days out they were playing in the woods when your fifteen sometimes you find some good shit lol I’m so glad I went in one of the best memories of my life I think I just found another art of more command in the middle of Chatham

So much history hidden in Chatham.. would have loved to have seen inside the bunker complex back in the day, I believe there's a couple of old videos on KZread from when it's been open but it doesn't look like anyone will get to see it again any time soon.. Thanks for watching and sorry the the late reply 😊👍

Thanks Adam, we are always trying to make improvements to the way we film and edit our videos so glad the hard work is being noticed.. We often bump into people who watch our videos so wouldn't be surprised.. Maybe we'll have to make a plan for it to happen one day if you're up for it! 😀👍
