Track: Why
Album out July 29th 2022.
Lyrics:
Why do people have to live outside
In the brutal heat or when it’s below freezing
There are people that are made to live outside
Why
Why do people have to live outside
When there are buildings all around us
With heat on and no one inside
Why
Why do people have to live outside
In tents, under bridges
Living with nothing and horribly suffering
Why
Why do people have to live outside
We have the resources
We have the means
Why
Why do people have to live outside
I couldn’t survive out on the streets
Why
Why do people have to live outside
I couldn’t survive out on the streets
I’ve never had to push all of my shit around in a shopping cart have you
Have you ever had ringworm
Scabies?
Have you ever had to live outside
I don’t want to live outside
Why
Why do people have to live outside
Horror story
Real American horror story
And it’s a fuckin tragedy
Every day
Everyday, people have to live outside
Why

I was homeless for 7 years ,had scabies, abscesses ,got kidnapped and raped in that time. it was so fucking cold at night I often diddrugs to stay awake all night as it was safer and warmer to sleep in the daytime in a park I woul chain smoke myself to sleep just to have warmth in my lungs . I was pretty scarred as an abused kid from violent and verbally abusive parent and turned to drugs at age 14 to cope with PTSD and not known to me until later -several misdiagnosed mental illness stuff I was heavily drugged from age 18-19 on Thorazine ,lithium,Prozac and Stelazine and told I would never be able to get a job or function in society pretty heavy shit to tell an 18 year old who was severely abused as a teen so I believed it in my gut for decades (that may have been triggered behavior- the adhd the depression the anxiety attacks ,the paranoia the from trauma -.im Still uncertain if that’s the primary cause as I unravel my issues or if those symptoms were caused by the abuse or a bit of both chemically in my brain with therapy and use of therapeutic psychedelics instead of psych meds (I I know some people go through worse and don’t do drugs but I had that button in my brain once pushed when I first did drugs that made me want more and more ,my mom was a junkie too . I was homeless from age 19-26 I’m writing a book about it It was fucking intense and very hard and very scary and very hopeless ,I was invisible to the public ,I floated like ghost around the public like I didn’t exist

@@nathanwilliams3049 My time was thankfully not that long, but your strength is genuinely admirable. I came from a rough place too and ended up on the streets bc I had nowhere to go after being taken to a mental hospital. Once I got myself on my feet, I still made sure to keep up with those I met who were still in it. My boy W lived on the street for about 2 years and had the same experience you did. I gotta go through insanely rigorous therapy myself and found meds that work for me. I'm so thankful I'm here now, but I'll never walk past a homeless person with ignorance again. I make sure to say "hey" every time and offer them a smoke. I wish you the absolute best, my friend, and hope your journey is a little easier from here on out ♥️
This song has among the best political messages I've ever heard, the sheer simplicity and aggression of repeating the same question tranfers this feeling of immense frustration at societal injustice. It communicates the horror of something terrible that we've all been desensitized to so well.

This song hits me like a ton of fucking bricks every time... It's nice to be reminded that there are others that share my anger and confusion on the fucking hellscape we are existing in and the pure lack of basic compassion and understanding for other humans. This shit is eating at my fucking brain every day I'm surrounded by fucking turmoil and despair and am made to feel crazy for wanting it all to stop or wanting to see someone rotting away on the streets as a fucking human being who should be treated with respect. Makes me sick to my stomach to think of the things I've heard my family say about the homeless growing up. I don't care what fucking drugs someone's out there doing or what you think got them there but it's less of a distance to be there in your life than many people imagine. Or you could be one of those babies that lost the lottery of life and be fucking tossed into this lifestyle without any other options. Ultimately I love that this song strips down this whole problem into the most basic question: We have the space, and the resources to allow humans to have access to basic shelter. What fucking reason could you possibly have to deny another human of that right?

Love your comment. Also wanting to share that my job is working with homeless individuals and getting them housed. Our philosophy is housing first. I work with other people who do the same and care so much and do great work. So, just letting you know while there's always more to be done, there's definitely people doing what they can for disenfranchised humans.

Think about this almost everyday to the point I get physically sick to my stomach whenever I can’t give an unhoused person money when I pass them on the street. I live in an area that’s been struggling with homelessness for years so i know unhoused people who’ve been on the streets for YEARS and have seen them degrade in ways I can’t even fathom. I always have at least $5 on me whenever I go outside but even that is hard to achieve sometimes since I make less than 35k a year. We truly live in a hellscape of our own institutions making, but there are always people doing the work that must be done and I truly commend them and work with them as much as I can. I wish all people have your level of compassion and understanding, even if you might consider it to be basic.

As someone who is usually a paycheck or two away from being on the streets, I am always reminded of my much more fortunate circumstances when I walk by the reality of someone setting up camp for the night, as I'm walking to my home. I play out how that life would be for me, and I can't imagine it too long before I get some sort of existential dread. I couldn't do it.

@@abon1364Wait, does anyone actually say that to homeless folks? If so, what the actual fuck? How clueless and lacking in basic empathy do they have to be?
The delivery of the lyrics being clean, clear, normal speech, and having the instrumentals perfectly match the speaking. It makes this whole track very personal, and direct in it's message. It does not cut corners, and it will not obfuscate the subject behind allegory or metaphors. Raygun Busch it ostensibly talking directly to you. And while it does escalate into screaming into the mic, it doesn't lose that organic, conversational feeling. Haunting, sickening, uncomfortable... Why

As someone who has done mutual aid work and tried helping homeless folk for nearly two years in my city… This song encapsulates my ANGER so much…for such a horrific, damning injustice to become this common and treated often with such inhumanity from bench spikes to police sweeps.
