Iona…just love your content. I’m a 9.5 handicap player, so my Red is getting under 80. I worked really hard last year to find a swing and tempo that held up for an entire round. I have some injuries in my spine and my wrists have an extra small bone in them (genetic anomaly) that don’t allow them to bend, or pronate, like others, so swinging a club would hurt in a more traditional swing, and modifications were necessary. Lots of work! I really found agreement with your comment around par 3’s. As I was working to become a better overall player, I focused hard on par 3’s and also par 5’s. I found that if I played those holes at par or better, my entire round felt stable. The result is I played the par 3’s and 5’s at an 81% success rate of par or better for the 2023 season. My biggest hurdle now is scoring on the par 4’s, which are long on my home course, so my GIR’s on the 4’s need improvement. My bogeys and or doubles come mostly from missing greens on the 4’s and not getting up and down. It’s fascinating to me how mentally my mistakes tend to show up more on the 4’s now. I believe after the winter is past, with the work I’m doing indoors, and a fresh mental perspective for the par 4’s, my RED will be under 78 this spring…and a handicap under 7 is in reach. Keep up the exceptional content…it is very inspiring. 😊

I love your "Chasing the Red" videos and from them, I try to absorb your tempo. I'm 63 years old now and also having taken a 20-year break from golf, I found out last year that I've lost 40+ yards of distance from my driver. A lot of that had to do with my knees and diabetes which had taken a neurological toll on me. However, I started practicing anyway and took advantage of the restart to teach myself a newer, more effective swing for my age. It all started to come back. I regained 20+ yards on my drives but our golf season here in Minnesota ends with winter. I ended up having my right knee replaced in November and I'm currently recovering from that so watching your videos is truly inspiring. I REALLY want to have your swing tempo because I find now that I'm hitting the ball the same distance as you... and I'm comfortable with that. It's just that your ball striking is just SO consistent and seemingly pure. I'd love to find fairways and greens like you do with such a consistently effortless swing. Just beautiful to watch. Continued happiness and success to you Iona...

Took up golf again during the lock down, last played early 20s now 59. Have loved learning how to play the game, joined a club for the first time 18 months ago. Have managed to get my handicap down to 7.9 and so motivated to get it down further. Now retired and playing most days. Love the wee nuggets you give like concentrating on what you are trying to achieve rather than the outcome makes great sense to me, thanks for that.

Another great video, Iona. Night golf looks like so much fun. That mix up on the 18th! Years ago, I was standing in a fairway sizing up a long carry over water to a front pin. And my friend asked me if I knew which green I was going to play to - the proper one was at a right angle left of where I was looking. Every single hole for the rest of round I endured; "Oh, Brian? The green is over here." Iona, I couldn't agree more about making pars on the par 3s! We under club, and swing out of our shoes; or get far too aggressive going for pins. Par 3s without the right strategy is where the doubles or worse can happen so fast.

One of the takeaways from your videos was the relationship to one's own clubs, as you mention in this video. I took up golf again last year, after almost 20 years of not playing due to various reasons, and after a brief, frustrating experiment with a few models I ended up with my old putter I used during my junior days (all other clubs I changed because well, they're twenty-odd years old) and finally gained confidence again on the greens. Thank you again for the great content and the tremendous videos, Iona.

Enjoying this series Iona! I play off 2 currently and like the idea of pushing just a bit each round to go into "my red". On equipment, beyond a standard fitting, I think just finding clubs that feel comfortable is the most important thing. I play persimmon 1/3/5 woods and my "players" irons are 7 years old. So I guess I bum out the golf industrial complex that is always pushing the latest and greatest, but having loads of fun trying to play some good golf!!

All the tips you give are so beneficial. I'm struggling with driver at the moment(high and spinny). I think a combination of lowering my tee height (I set up with half the ball above the top of the club) and trying to stay tall rather than holding my weight forward and compressing into the ball is going to help. We've all said it before and I'll say it again, this is the best channel on KZread.

Dufferin is a hilly course with tricky greens. I warn first timers that the only flat spot is the parking lot, so most fairway shots require slope adjustments. Flat landers beware!

Another great video Iona. You pull the viewer in, in a way that makes us feel we are there and part of it. As for chasing the red, I regularly have periods where I am on it and breaking my handicap but the chances of me breaking par for a round are pretty slim. Looking forward to watching you trying to qualify for The Open.

Looking forward to watching you play in the open Iona, as you will definitely be playing in it if you can keep injury free and practicing 🙌🏻
