Quarantined in Rishikesh today. Watching Ma Ganga flow from a window ledge. In the morning light the emerald green mixes with the pink sun, twirling in vortexes. Thanks for the great video. Lets all make mental offerings to her, not put plastic floating candles into her.

you can see the river in documentary in your country and why you come to watch the river in physical form. offering is to make some changes in personal life and give satisfaction. Ganga can give life to people and it will never die (as the author refers many times) I feel very bad when they use those words.

You are great and I really enjoyed this documentary. Very nice video, well researched well photographed and created....every Indian must watch this. I am indian, grown in North India and can see things of Video everyday close to Ganga. River Yamuna, a tributary of Ganga, is just used to drain the waste of factory and city in its bank, could be Delhi or Agra, it is a same story. PM Modi is working towards cleaning it, not sure how much he can succeed, as Hindu beliefs are major factor in Ganga's pollution. Note: Video is about Ganga, don't worry if fact about Cricket is wrong. You should appreciate the research of presenter/Nat Geo of Hindu believes. His effort to collect video and photographs form Kanpur leather factory or Agra or remote part of Himalaya.

Wonderful video. It is worth remembering that the Ganga river has also been - mainly through agriculture and trade - one of the key reasons that India has been among the materially wealthiest countries in the world over the past 3000 years. Patna (Pataliputra) was the capital of the glorious Mauryan and Gupta empires that wowed the ancient Greeks. Later, Bengal became the wealthiest region in the world during the Mughal times (as noted by the historian William Dalrymple). All thanks to the resources of Ganga.

I used to work as a whitewater jet boat captain on the upper Ganges River up stream from Rishikesh 20 something years ago. More than once we came across guys dynamite fishing! Sort of making a Bang Lasi of the holly river. I am one of those people who found great adventure in India and do love the place but pollution is pollution and the river is a mess below Rishikesh. With the ever increasing population outstripping everything and replacing it with garbage, nothing is actually going to get better. You young people get your butts in gear, go see and live whats left before it's gone!

Great and truthful presentation. First we Indians should have courage to accept the fact. He is not defying Hindu religion nor India. Whatever he mentioned is a hard hitting truth. He mentioned cricket as a national game in the context that it is being played widely in the country. All Indians kindly accept the fact and try to contribute cleaning the river in some way. I think preventing water resources is more sacred and important than preventing religion. I think without religion human can live (we did during ancient times) but not without water and ecosystem👍👍

There is a big problem that I see already at minute 14 in this documentary. The host mentions the Ganges in front of Agra (Taj Mahal), and although I have never been to India, I atleast know that in front of Agra you have teh Yamuna river, NOT the Ganges. True the Yamuna is a tributarie of the Ganges, but treating one as the other is to me a lack of professionalism. Not to mention all of his data might be "contaminated" (laugh and pund intendes), since he speaks about the river restoring itself, yet ofcourse it can restore itself if we consider the point of entry into the Ganges, NO???

Outstanding! It would be very easy for us to point fingers. Just make sure to acknowledge the 3 pointing back at us because we are worse in our pollution. Our EPA did not exist before 1970 and it took tragedies and global condemnation to get us moving.

There's a mistake ,the river which you are testing in Agra near The Taj Mahal, is Yamuna river not the Ganga.

If you look closely at the oxygen graph, you can see that they mention in the x axis labels that Agra was on the Yamuna. Also he says that out loud multiple times.

Mr Pete the yamuna river at agra is a tributary of the ganges from gangotri river and the yamuna comes from yamunotri river the river yamuna is highly polluted in delhi and when it comes to mathura a refinery is there so agra doesn't pollute river majorly cause there are very few industries in agra and a ban in agra for polluting industries

Great job Nat Geo.. Very well made, some clarifications that i'll like to make since western mind thinks differently than eastern: 1) God in east doesn't refer to a physical form.. God is more closer to energy rather than western god 2) That story about river originating from Shiva's hair is more dialectical.. please dont take it literally. Most Indian history is in form of such stories since stories are said to be keep listeners engrossed than facts 3) You don't just take a dip and clesr all your sins. To attain moshka is a long process, taking the dip helps you but is not a cheat to heaven.. I have a long list to go, but then this comment will be few pages long..
