Chasing John Mayer's Belief tone (Where The Light Is)

This is my attempt to nail the tone John Mayer got for 'Belief' on his live DVD 'Where The Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles'.
John's rig was a 3-amp setup consisting of a Two-Rock John Mayer Signature, a Dumble Overdrive Special (loaded with EL43 power tubes), and a Two-Rock Sterling Signature (Dumble Steel String Singer 004 clone). His pedals were housed in a Bradshaw system rack and the main drives were an Ibanez TS10 and a Marshall BluesBreaker Mk1. His long delay was a Pete Cornish Tape Echo Simulator. I did my best to recreate the tones from a professional recorded, mixed, and mastered DVD with the gear I got.
Unfortunately, I don't have an Electro Harmonix Micro Synthesizer, which is the effect he used for the final solo. I'll do my best to get one to try and match that tone eventually.

  • @horaciococcioni8538

I know it's controversial, but I actually liked your tone better. What the live version actually has is better sustain and feedback because of stage volume vs just DI. And obviously, in the room there is no comparison, but for low volume and recording purpouses, you have a killer setup and your tone and playing is amazing. Congrats.
