Charlie Sykes: GOP “Absolutely Confident” That They Will Win in 2024 | Amanpour and Company
The Republican National Convention begins next week in Wisconsin. In many ways, the battleground state reflects the recent history of the GOP, with Republicans swinging more and more to the right, ending in a full-on embrace of Donald Trump’s MAGA policies. A close observer of this phenomenon is Charlie Sykes, founder of The Bulwark and a respected voice amongst never-Trump Republicans. Sykes joined Walter Isaacson to analyze what cards Republicans might play in the upcoming election, and what strategies Biden might adopt, post-debate.

Mass deportation would be another dog that caught the car moment. The disruption of the construction and agricultural industries due to labor shortages will increase prices. Supply and demand, the demand for goods will remain, but the ability to supply them will be reduced, therefore prices will increases on the fewer goods available. If they were serious about actually dealing responsibly with immigration, they would have passed the bipartisan bill earlier this year, instead of keeping it a campaign issue. Passed the bill AND use the tools in the bill to DO something instead of using it as a wedge issue.

Industry entitlement to pocket the wage theft from an imported illegal work force glut, is a shortage of DOL and immigration law enforcement. The parties, each with 25% of registered voters, are now minorities, with their non-Far [x], 16%, habituated to their party alliance. Root cause: the parties own our voting process. Registration alone, requiring party designation, is the thin edge start of their gerrymandering.

Yes, we've let "the parties" own our voting processes, and they reflect the two parties' interests. Root cause of us losing control over "representation". "gerrymandering" alone: Democrats with Open Borders and "sanctuary cities", which skew allocation of House of Representative seats (gerrymander the population, expand non-voter count). Republicans with gerrymandering of the district definitions, and via felonizing the typically D demographics and prison location in R districts, which skew the allocation of House of Representative seats. Then there's elector gerrymander, state laws that eliminate the 49% voters by committing electors to voting for the 51% winner of their state.

Trump's VP is likely to be Beavis or Butthead. We all see where this train is headed. Think Uday and Qusay Hussein as the template.
Of course they say they are “absolutely confident.” They lie. They’re not absolutely confident. Sykes needs a change of profession if he takes them at their word
Imagine "the camps" that Trump's people will create and fill with MILLIONS of people who may or may not have legal status. Imagine how safe and survivable these places will be with Trump appointees riding herd on federal government bureaucracies that can't handle even a few tens of thousands of migrants. Imagine what happens when people languish in these camps for months or even years as the international arguments play out.

The NPR/Marist poll is ONE poll that shows nationwide results. As Hillary taught us, it's not the national numbers that matter, it's the swing states. And it's never just one poll. It's polling TRENDS. The polling average trends for the last few months have CONSISTENTLY shown Trump ahead of Biden in the swing states, and it's only become WORSE since Ruth Bader Biden's debate debacle. If Biden doesn't step aside soon, while there's still time, get ready for Trump and his fascist MAGA cult to win. It's that simple, and no amount of magical thinking or grasping for straws is going is going to save us!

To all conservative pro-lifers out there, one question. How many of you are willing or have adopted a child? From the conservatives I have asked this question none were willing to do that. But they are willing to elect state officials that will gladly cut funding for care of orphan children and the public education of all children. I suppose the next thing you will vote for is Work Houses for orphan children so they somehow pay their own way.
