Because all they have without it is the brutal humiliation of reality. First worlders need to understand that there’s nothing we could possibly do, say or give which will ever be enough. The obvious fact that they can never achieve natural parity with us is the sin for which WE’LL never be forgiven.

America didn't ban slavery first. The British banned slavery in 1833! There was also a blockade on West Africa after the British navy went after the slave traders. The West African Squadron of the British Navy. The Squadron’s ships would be tasked with stopping ships run by both illicit British traders and those from other countries which had agreed to allow the Royal Navy to arrest their citizens. Britain was, way ahead of America here.

I'm a Black South African. My ancestors were were slaves here in The Cape of Good Hope, all Briahana's arguments were from the past and nothing from where we are today in America 🇺🇸 or South Africa 🇿🇦. Her example of the American Constitution states that Black people were ⅗ of a person is a lie. If the Free States didn't made that compromise they would have strengthened the hand of the slave states. The ⅗ proposal were made by the Free States it was a way of telling the slave states you can't have your cake and eat it too. E.G. count the slaves in the census to increase the demographic in the slave states but not allow the slaves to vote.

I think they are both right and ultimately both wrong. Brie has no concept of world history with regard to slavery and federalism. The US, The UK and Western Europe were revolutionary in terms of improving the human condition. Charlie’s quoting of the federalist papers is a bunch of BS and doesn’t mean anything to a regular black person in America today. If I was Charlie I would make the case that the legacy of red lining and Jim Crow pale in comparison to the damage done by well intended social welfare programs and policies. It’s not just the US, you see a permanent underclass in Europe as well. Brie is misdiagnosing the situation. If I was Brie, I would bring up more contemporary examples. Red lining? That’s been gone for 50 years. Same with Jim Crow. I think mass incarceration is probably her best bet. Brie would also have a good point to bring up the decline in the success of public education, but then she would have to face the consequences of supporting public sector unions.
