Currants are a subset of raisins and are made from the black corinth grape whereas raisins are just "dried grapes".

At least where I come from (Canada) a currant is one of a couple of varieties of small sour berry that grows on a bush. And can be eaten either fresh or dried. Or sometimes made into jam or juice. But they're nothing to do with grapes.

I knew about raisins and prunes as a child. OTOH, I'm 52 and don't know what gherkins are. Heard of em, don't know. Not entirely sure about currants. I think they're in desserts?

  • @Cozycountry1

A currant is a type of raisin and come from Black Corinth grapes. Gherkins are small cucumbers which are pickled. I love grapes and cannot stand raisins, currants or sultanas or prunes. Drying the fruit and making it shrivelled and taking out the juiceiness to leave a horrible dried version of it all taste revolting to me. Gherkins are vile too.

@@LJ-the-nthLook, a currant in this discussion IS a dried black grape. I am quite aware there is a fruit, at least in the UK we call it this, named blackcurrant which is an edible berry. You need to learn to distinguish between the 2 and realise currants in this context are a dried grape and the other currant is a berry. Before correcting others you should have learnt what the 2 currants are.

@@Cozycountry1Thank you for informing me! I tended to hold as you that dried versions of fruit weren't good, but my mom made amazing oatmeal and raisin cereal, and there the raisins were plump and sweet. I also loved prunes as they were still squishy and sweet, though I've never liked prune juice. Always hated pickles. Have yet to try a sultana. I've never encountered them during my life.

You might be slightly underestimating the amount of time it takes to write, produce, and star in an hour long episode of scripted television, and overestimating the amount of time it takes to appear on a half hour episode of unscripted.
