Pascoe Problems! | Sara Pascoe on Would I Lie to You? | Would I Lie to You?

Ойын-сауық

Thanks to Sara Pascoe, we'll always know that Costa Rica is not in Spain. I mean, we should know anyway, but still!
0:00 - Sara Pascoe: "As a child, my Christmas was once cut short when my mum took the decorations down."
3:30 - Sara Pascoe: "I once booked a holiday to Costa Rica because I thought it was in Spain. I only realized my mistake when I sat down on the plane."
8:32 - Sara Pascoe (Possession): "I once bought a chest of drawers from my bedroom online. I realized I'd made a terrible mistake when this arrived."
12:15 - Sara Pascoe: "As a child, I once secretly cashed my mum's family allowance and used the money to buy a cat."
16:28 - Sara Pascoe: "Possession: These are my Scrabble glasses. They don't have lenses in, but I wear them every time I play because they make me feel cleverer."
Sara Pascoe: "Possession: These are my Scrabble glasses. They don't have lenses in, but I wear them every time I play because they make me feel cleverer."

You can play fun games of amateur psychology with many of the repeat comedians on WILTY. Sara: loving but dysfunctional upbringing, possibly frequently poor and deprived of treats, leading to irresponsibility relating to money. David: doting, enabling parents and family, slightly spoiled but in a relatively harmless way, few childhood friends to speak of and woefully inept at anything relating to social interactions with the opposite sex. Bob: grew up in the Beano. 🤣

It’s called “rhotacism”, and is a specific speech impediment, especially where the r sound is vocalised as more a w sound, and can be especially noticeable in non rhotic accents. There are some british accents that are more rhotic than others, and some linguists have pointed to either class (compare cockney to elite schools where rhotacism not uncommon!)/ location/ oral shape as possible reasons. US accents tend to be rhotic (pronouncing every r sound in a word) while Australian accents are non rhotic (certain r sounds when in particular placements in words or adjacent to particular letters) are not voiced.

WILTY? has lost something. The covid separated seats which are absolutely ridiculous have the cast far too apart so there is now very little intimacy and chemistry amongst them. The seats need to go. What else needs to go is the lame guests that have been popping in over the last three seasons. The bar is low and it needs to be raised to the likes of Sara Pascoe, etc... I just watch the old episodes now where the cast are visibly having "fun" with each other. lately they'rre not having fun. They're just going through the motions.

It is the curse of all long running shows. If they keep doing the same thing, people get bored. If they change things up, people yearn for the old way. As David and Lee have pointed out, after this many seasons they have pretty much exhausted stories from their lives that would work in the show. I don't think the seating arrangement really has much to do with it. It is just an aging show.
