Coolest guy I never met
This guy gets better and better. Saw him opening for JD McPherson over here in Germany some years ago, just as good as JD himself. Incredible musician who really sticks out. Lyrics below, use these chords when playing along: Capo on 1 Intro Am E E/G Am Verses Am G Am / Am G E / Am G F E / Am G E E/G Am [Intro] Am E E/G Am [Verse 1] I was standin' beside the road in Blackjack County Not knowing the sheriff paid a bounty For men like me who didn't have a penny to their names So he locked my leg to thirty-five pounds of Blackjack County chain [Verse 2] And all we had to eat was bread and water And each day we had to build that road a mile and a quarter A black snake whip would cut our backs if some poor fool complained And you couldn't fight back wearin' thirty-five pounds of Blackjack County chain [Verse 3] And then one night when the sheriff was a-sleepin' We gathered all around him slowly creepin' Heaven help me to forget that night in the cold, cold rain When we beat him to death with thirty-five pounds of Blackjack County chain [Verse 4] Now the whip marks have all healed and I am thankful That there's nothing but these scars around my ankles But most of all I'm glad no man will be a slave again To a black snake whip and thirty-five pounds of Blackjack County chain To a black snake whip and thirty-five pounds of Blackjack County chain Blackjack County chain Blackjack County chain

Please guys, don't roast me. I'm just a swiss dude who actually has no clue (yet) of country besides the stereotypes and cliches there are here. I discovered this channel by accident and good god, it opened a door for me that i thought would never be opened...ever. It feels so real and true to the roots of the music. Not like other things that i thought would be "country" You know. pickup trucks, women in daisy dukes, people line dancing and all the other prejudice. I freaking love this channel and discovered so many new styles of music! If more folks here would know about this - i dare to say - "new wave of country" they'd surely embrace and welcome it more! You gained a new subscriber and guy who wants to learn (and of course listen) more!!!!

I don't blame you at all! Most Americans don't know the true country music. the irony to me is that this is now considered "alt Country" or even a new wave of country music when, in reality, it's actually country music's in it's truest, most original form. I'm glad you're part of the Country Music family now!

“It’s nothing to me” is one of my fav country songs I was so pleased when he referred to Sanford Clark
I'm obsessed with the way he sings this
This reminds me of something that could have been sung in the 1950’s. You don’t find this quality in modern day performers. Awesome
First of all, I could listen to this man talk all day. Let alone his singing...

Right what an amazing song about murdering a man.
Charley Crockett is phenomenal. He put Tyler Childers to shame when he opened for him in Phoenix Arizona. I would pay to see CC any day.
I had the pleasure of meeting Charley and his band a few years back and I must say he is a true, honest to god gentlemen. It wasn't your typical, get your signature and go, he engaged in a meaningful conversation and took an interest in what you had to say.
Ole Red Would have been PROUD GREAT JOB
I love the explanation at the beginning. It’s so important because it can be so hard to discover old artists, I became a fan of Sandford Clark because of this
Charley is the man! His albums are all incredible!
This guy is amazing true music is still alive. And actually knows where the song comes from and the history of it.
We've heard just a touch of Charley's stories. Idk everything that Charley was up to in the streets but you can hear that shit in his throat lol!!!! It's in the eyes. Real gangsta crooning.
Amazing
Brilliant! Massive fan from Scotland, keep on doing what you do my friend!!
Love that he knows and pays homage to the history. I’m a Canadian small city man... Cash and a little bit of classic country but not a fan, fan I just like good music ... this guy is AWESOME.
Nobody else is telling these stories. Thanks good time Charlie.
I like it when you get a small history lesson
Yours is the best version of this song my brother 💪🤠
Why do people come on ever CC video listing other current country artists? Using his videos to advertise those guys. Some of them aren’t terrible, but Charley is a unique soul. Nobody can stand next to him right now. No one is like him.
This versión is Just perfect. Much respect to you my , dude.

Crockett never EVER letting us down.
