You're always so much fun to listen to Charles! I always loved the look of Palm Springs with the natural dessert and mountains contrasted by an oasis of tropical lushness. The architecture is the icing on the cake. Thank goodness it never went through a time when homeowners wanted to modernize their houses. It must be so nice living there see all the whimsical and natural beauty!

I have to break this up. Two hours of Charles will make me too tingly and goose pimply. This is so exciting. I wish Charles would sing the theme to Palm Springs Weekend, 1963. I KNOW.

When in Palm Springs, the mountains look like the mountains you see from Burbank, Glendale, and Sierra Madre in the Los Angeles area.

Kool! Man. Enjoyed ever rhapsodic minute of this KZread video event. Glad you got all the cars right even the years and models...Two big Thumbs up. I owned or had an experience with nearly every one. Dad owned a 1957 Mercury 'Monterey' and I owned or friends owned most of the rest and a lot of others from the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's. Mine were mostly Cadillac(my first car was a 1948 62-series Cadillac conv.)and T-Bird convertibles and hardtops. As an architect/builder, I employed a lot of the Mid-fifties designer elements of Light in Flight and Inside/Out, but not the color schemes preferring the natural native elements of glass/steel/concrete/wood. Not as festive as the color palette employed by some Mid-fifties, but gave a sense of solidity which frankly escapes most Mid-fifties designs. Thanks for this near 2-hour treat

"George Jetson meets the Flintstones"! Priceless! BTW - the gents at 1:00 are wearing "beachcomber" outfits, which were all the rage in 1963-ish. They came with rope belts. If you were the tall, tanned, good looking surfer type, beachcombers looked great - otherwise, maybe not so much.

The first time my family went and visited Palm Springs from our home in Lakewood, California was in the summer of 1962 in my Dad's new 1962 Ford Galaxie 2-door hardtop (his first new car in his life). I was 15 then. A Nostalgic look back at the desert community as we drove past the new skyway to San Gorgonio Peak, to see Frank Sinatra's and Elvis Presley's homes there, the shops with elegantly dressed mannequins lit in glass windows with the tall palm trees and stopping at a classic restaurant for lunch. Add to this the perfect serendipity of hearing some specific music on the car radio, titled "Palm Canyon Drive" by Hugo Montenegro Orchestra, from his album "Hugo Montenegro in 70mm" on Time Records in Stereo (which I love and is in my collection). Mid-Century Modern classic music, a nice blend of elevator Muzak with modern jazz. We then completed the afternoon by driving by the golf course where Bob Hope and Bing Crosby played golf, and then to Palm Desert, before returning to Los Angeles, arriving home at dusk. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video you produced!

Let's be honest. Only truly gorgeous car shown is the Avanti. And yes that bobcat is not the first or ONLY big 3 that tried to emulate the fabulous Avanti. ALL big 3 ponies which came after the Avanti some 2 to 6 years years later were simply, come lately Avanti wannabees.
