@Wilfri Castillo This happened on April 19, 1990. Therefore, I would say that puts it in the 90's. Although the "mentality" was that of the 80's and that mentality continued until the end of the Jordan era. Thus began the era of everyone being BFF's and nobody ever getting hurt or playing defense and trading jerseys after games and "following" each other on social media. I wonder why basketball sucks now?

The Pistons didn't get rid of Rick Mahorn. He wasn't protected in the expansion draft of 1989. Salley and Rodman made up the defensive presence, whereas Budda Edwards was more of an offensive presence off the bench. Which made Mahorn the odd man out. Rick had something to prove that year as if he still had some miles left on the chassis.

I was gunna make this comment too, but... I think, in way, they did get rid of him by not protecting him. Seems to me he was snapped up quickly in the draft, as was predictable. It's like leaving someone out of a life-raft and hoping somehow they'll survive a few days alone in the open ocean -- you're sort of kidding yourself then.

@@polarvortex3294 No, there's no way you can consider that the Pistons "getting rid of" Mahorn. I believe it was eight that every team could protect from the expansion draft, and because the Pistons were so deep, one of their key players was going to have to be left unprotected. Nothing they could do about that.
