I added felt gaskets to the lid and ash pan and now it sticks the temp setting perfectly. It even now works with the suggested top vent position

@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Yes in addition to the factory one , i just added to the bottom bowl and made sure the lid gasket sits on top of the added one. The same for the ash pan

Excellent and helpful video!! I put a piece of tape across the vent to block some air flow but I like the idea of just closing the vent when up to temp.

Great minds think alike, made smoked 1/2 pound short rib burgers on the SmokeFire today. I seared them on the SnS kettle though because I wanted to try a Fire Cup chimney starter. Those looked fantastic Tom, the auto kamado did a great job.

I own the Masterbuilt 560 and it's pretty good/fun but quality does not seem to be as good as the Chargriller. But it does seem that both of these units go through a lot of charcoal especially compared to this Auto Kamado which is the most efficient Kamado I've every used (I have the large and extra large BGE too).

When I look at the concept, and when I consider my Spider Venom on a kettle, I’m guessing that the “door” is there for when you want to just use the kamado as a kamado. Spider venom works well with almost no air slipping in from below and the top vents wide open. I think you want to limit passive air supply when running the fan. Just my .02¢
