Maybe the pipe the engine exhaust into first chamber to carry dirty producer gas into the bottom of the charcoal gasifier? Anyway, that seems like a way to gasify a wider range of material than just wood.

HI, thanks for reply but from video I don't understand what is the primary energy source for run pirolisys process inside reactor.. you reactor is heated on bottom with external flame or is just exaust gas of engine that heat charcoal on bottom? Normally CO2 can't burn. An reply is appreciated.. Regards Marco

Really interesting! Must be Gary's newest design, the Simple-fire, using exhaust from the weedwacker engine. How long will it run on the pot of charcoal? Are there any hot spots in the stock pot? Can you show us how you light it, and how much work it took to get things going? More details on what is in the filter canister? Thank you very much for posting this! I am in the middle of putting together a charcoal gasifier. I don't understand what that second black 'pot'-looking thing on the right is, attached to the motor inlet with the green hose. Can you explain? Thx.

That’s a battery powered air mattress inflator I use to pull air through the reactor when lighting it. Once it’s glowing and producing gas then I can start the engine. Filter has layers of open cell foam and oil, be sure to have plenty gas cooling before the filter. Notice long flexible metal line. I’ve also built small coolers/radiators using copper plumbing fittings. Beware and disclaimer, I take no responsibility for other’s projects. This produces deadly carbon monoxide gas, that’s the fuel this glorified grill makes. There’s also an explosion hazard since CO is an explosive gas.

@@Stirlingsound Thanks for taking the time to answer. That all makes sense. I might throw a small radiator in front of the filter in addition to the length of the line.

no oil needed for that weedeater? usually 2 cycles need oil mixed with their fuel. or does the PAH emissions keep it lubricated?

That sounds like a 2 cycle engine. How do you introduce oil into the cylinder to keep it lubed up? Nice neat job!

Could you just use wood in this gasifier?? Or does it specifically need to be charcoal?? I would really appreciate it!!

you could, but it will produce more water and more tar making it not-so-great for engines without good filtration though probably more btu's

You could but to make the gas safe for an engine you need a larger and more complex design. Making charcoal is also pretty easy.

If you had a second pot full of waste--plastics, grass clippings, cardboard/paper, over a flame, and piped that dirty gas into the bottom of your charcoal gasifier, wouldn't the hot charcoal clean up the dirty producer gas as well?
