    I just got this grill and it is a beast...... just got a half cord of wood delivered and bought a spliter and ready to rock the grillin season....... I seasoned it with some Crisco rubbed the whole grill down with it and it seasoned real nice....... made some bomb ass ribs for the first cook....... Anybody considering getting this grill, you will not regret it..... it will compete with any competition grill any day...... Happy grillin 🤘

    Hell ya Trevor! Sounds like you’re already dialed in! I love the fire management side of things, and being above to control the temps/smoke with proper wood selection and the dampers. Check out this beef ribs vid if you haven’t already: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hoZ128eSkqm-ktY.html

    @@1025theo I don't see why not I'm going on the 3rd season with mine with heavy use and mine is still going strong.... mine sealed up fine with no need for welding...... only complaint is on the fire box the top door doesn't seal all the way.... but it doesn't effect the performance at all I vent it with the side vent anyways so it doesn't need to be air tight

    I bought mine on March 19th. March 21st I had a cord of wood delivered that was supposed to be seasoned but was far from it. I bought the floor model, it was the only one in stock and 3 employees couldn’t put it in my truck. I finally told them just go get the forklift. It was a good birthday. Had some entertainment, got a nice smoker and saved $50 buying the floor model.

    Definitely add a lava lock gasket (or similar) around the doors. That way you make sure your unit is as airtight as possible. Also, you can add it between the firebox and cooking chamber but I would recommend some fireproof sealant vs a gasket there. That way it gets smushed in between em and creates a good seal.

    I just put my Grand Champ XD together yesterday afternoon in the hot Arizona sun. I didn’t have any help, so it took me about 3 1/2 hours. You’re right, the installation of the firebox was the most difficult part. I used a paver and a plastic bucket to support it. Happily, I was successful, but it wasn’t easy, at all. There’s got to be a better way, but that’s all behind me now. I seasoned the grill and then smoked a chicken. Because I’m a beginner at this, the chicken took over four hours to finish. Low and way too slow, but it did taste really good. I’m looking forward to learning more how to control my fire.

    Awesome Kevin! Yeah the firebox was a challenge, luckily the stool I used was almost the perfect height to align everything. Yes, fire and temp management is the name of the game. Hey Herman, I should’ve mentioned that… Yes you can add charcoal directly to the main chamber, and cook over direct heat. I love my Traeger, and plan on upgrading my pellet grill soon, but this is a fun alternative when I just want to tend a fire and drink beers all day! Ha ha

    Hey brother, I absolutely love the smoker! Easy temp controls, and maintains heat well. You can also use as a direct cooker and place charcoal under the main grill. I’ve been doing alot more cooks than I had planned for with this. I hope this helps, and reach out if you need anything!

  • @4WDJeepDriver
    @4WDJeepDriver2 жыл бұрын

    There is some discussion that this is not a wood burning smoker, and should only use charcoal as the primary heat source. It would be ok to add wood for smoke, but not for heat. It's a smidge less than 1/8 inch thick and CharGriller says high heat will warp the doors. I thought charcoal burns hotter than wood, so what Char Griller says doesn't make sense. I also heard that there is as much as a 50 degree heat difference in the main cook chamber from the firebox side to the smoke stack side. Is this true?

    Just got mine today. It was SOAKED in machine oil. Is this normal? My plan was to spray it with canola oil but now i feel I have to degrease it before I apply the canola oil to season it. Thoughts?

  • @ItsRyanTurley

    @ItsRyanTurley

    3 жыл бұрын

    Awesome brother, you’re going to love it! I would suggest doing a couple hour burn-in with no oil, then doing a fresh layer of canola oil and doing another solid burn. Similar to cast-iron. But I’m sure there are many ways to skin the cat, as they say. Holler if I can ever help out!

    Yes you can, you can just load up some charcoal directly on the drip pan of the main cooking chamber. I’ve been doing hot and fast / direct heat with burgers, steaks, and they’ve all come out amazing! I would only suggest a charcoal chimney if you don’t already have one.
