Chapter By Chapter (Never Let Me Go): Intro and Chapter One

Welcome to the first video in our chapter by chapter analysis of Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go!
In this video we'll look at the background of the author and genera, meet our three main characters, discuss the importance of the setting, and theorize how memory plays an integral role in the story.

Good question! My view on it is that Kathy says a couple odd things about not knowing where places are (such as Hailsham). I don't think Kathy is being deceitful, just that maybe she doesn't understand the whole picture.

Yes, the characterization of Kathy as possibly being an unreliable narrator surprised me too. I thought it had more to do with the “other aspects” of the story which are gradually revealed to the reader. But Kathy as an unreliable narrator early on is a fair and interesting point.

Oxford Comma she also made a lot of inferences and speculations about people, events, etc but as it showed thru her interactions with Madame, though she is quite a mind reader she is not perfect, she was still a little off on the finer details and tru intentions behind people’s words and action. She also let her emotion manipulate a lot of her intuition and memories too.. like her “insert appropriate word I couldnt think of myself” towards Ruth and Tommy.
