Chapter 5 George Hood

I'm 59 years old, I started building model airplanes with my dad who was an Air Force veteran...he was also a volunteer firefighter along with my grandfather...thus the love of the fire department. I switched to building model trucks in the 70's and 80's with the big rig CB craze and that naturally morphed into scratch building fire trucks.
I got hired as a firefighter with Fairfax County, Virginia in 1985 and life got in the way of building models.
Fast forward about 25 years, my life circumstances changed and the new wife was working a night shift, so I decided to get back into model building. Once again I started with big rigs and was pulled back to firetrucks...the tools, techniques and aftermarket had drastically changed for the good. My love is for the rigs of the 50's, 60's and 70's and my fictitious department of "Waterford " tends to reflect that.
I retired from Fairfax in 2019 with 34 years as an engine/truck driver.
Other interests include working on 1 of my 5 1:1 rigs or activities with the granddaughter.

Nice to see an old builder still at it. Do you still have the working fire diorama that you had at the Chesapeake modelers displays many years ago? greg
