We give thanks this week for the healing power of music, for the immense privilege of singing together, and most especially, for the amazing people who believe in us and support our mission.
"Shenandoah" features soloists Matthew Knickman, Gerrod Pagenkopf, Logan Shields, Cortez Mitchell, and Adam Ward, with arrangements by Marshall Bartholomew and James Erb.
Chanticleer is a GRAMMY-winning vocal ensemble composed of six countertenors, three tenors, and three basses. This recording was made possible by strict personal quarantines before and during a masked, distanced rehearsal process in a huge space with good air flow.

That's not a tenor, that's a soprano.... I have never heard a tenor voice so beautiful. I'm sitting here with tears rolling down my face. This is the first time I have ever heard them and I'm so sad I haven't until now. Just speechless.
TEARS! I first heard this version in highschool when my choir teacher had our guys sing it and all of us ladies were JELLYY and in tears... you guys this will always be the best version... and you guys KILLED IT!
I am in tears. In 1995, on a tour with the Old Dominion University concert choir, we were all gathered as a group in the stairwell of the National Cathedral in DC. On a whim, we struck up this piece which was in our repertoire. It was ethereal, perfect and a spiritual experience, and hearing this version, sung with this perfection, takes me back there. It was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. Thank you Chanticleer for this........
both the long hair and the long notes are impeccable

Too much reverb for me. The original's sound was more focused, and the soprano solo was totally unexpected. This arrangement is longer with 3 soprano solos. Both versions are brilliant, new singers, new recording technology, different venue...
Beautifully sung!
THE COUNTER TENOR!!!!! Great Job!!!!
Glad to hear this performed again. It's been too long!
Still makes me cry, every time I hear it.
I was in the choir that first sang Jim Erb's "Shenandoah" (from mimeographed pages!) in 1971. This is the most beautiful performance of it that I've heard, and I think Jim would have liked the additions to his original arrangement.
My favorite a cappella piece of all time!
O M G!!!! CHIC, ELEGANT, TIMELESS, EXQUISITE, CHANTICLEER… I don’t know what it is about this song that touches me so much throughout my life… especially at low points. I remember hearing this on the rolling credits sang a cappella after watching a Civil War movie decades ago and it left me without words, which is a difficult thing to do. Again today I had it on my mind to try to find who this group was that sang the a cappella version on that soundtrack which I did not find. However, while listening to versions of Shenandoah ,which were sung cappella, there were many that were great until I heard CHANTICLEER. I was so unbelievably touched by their beautiful understated presentation which many times is most powerful…and then they begin…THOSE VOICES…I had tears in my eyes listening while they showcase the unbelievable range presented so effortlessly. I’m so grateful for your talent and the uncomplicated way you present it allowing the thoughtful arrangement to be enjoyed without distraction. BRING IT ON!!
Lovely! You gentlemen sound like one instrument, played by the same person. Lovely! 👏👏👏

The absolute best
My goodness. Goosebumps over and over!
Perfection. Bravissimo!
Stunningly elegant and magnificent.
nice
Dr. Erb's arrangement is the best. If you're so inclined, check out the performance of it in the ending credits of Oliver Stone's movie "Nixon."
What a beautiful rendition of this classic song. Where was it recorded?

@@winstontharp1840 Many thanks!
The dissonance in 1:41 is so memorable
So I’m a fan of BYU football, which just scheduled a game with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. What’s a Chanticleer? Google led me here 🤣. Amazing sound 😁.

Chanticleer is a name used to refer to a rooster (that they don't know the name of or that doesn't have a name)...in the same way that people say Reynard for a fox, Pepi LePeu for a skunk, or Fido for a dog
No way that little guy opening up like that...wow
Mister jigglypuff at the beginning is just amazing
Anyone know where I can get sheet music ? 😩😭❤️❤️❤️

This arrangement is actually comprised of two arrangements. The section from 1:57 onwards is from The LG Choral Series arr. James Erb. Not sure where the first part is from though.

In all reality, this is an acapella video from a niche group. The ones who liked are in fact nerds. (myself included) the dislike is just a dick
What happened with the original crew? Most of the current singers are new

At least three of them have been with Chanticleer for 15 years. Andy Berry is the newest member, in his third year. See their website and the bios.
