40 Years - The Greatest Hits out now @ lnk.to/SpandauBallet-GH40
Spandau Ballet are one of Britain’s great iconic bands having sold over 25 million records, scored numerous multi-platinum albums and amassed 23 hit singles across the globe since their humble beginnings as a group of friends with dreams of stardom in the late 1970s. It wasn’t long before they became fully-fledged members of the iconic Blitz Club scene and established themselves as one of the super-groups of the 80s.
The band's classic line-up features brothers Gary and Martin Kemp on guitars, vocalist Tony Hadley, saxophonist Steve Norman and drummer John Keeble.
Spandau Ballet’s hits include Gold, True, To Cut A Long Story Short, Through The Barricades and many more.

After all these years.. I'm still blown away by spandau ❤
This song was the first recording of a drummer with the Simmons SDSV electronic drums, Spandau Ballet makes history on this song in 1981. You can see the drummer John Keeble using the drum kit in the video.

Really? Interesting. I thought Japan might have used it on The Art Of Parties in April 1981 but maybe not.

@@ajs41 Yes, John Keeble himself said that he got serial No. 3. He got that chance because Richard James Burgess was the producer of the first two records of Spandau Ballet and he also helped Dave Simmons in the development of the SDSV.

So he was actually playing them then? I was just listening to Richard Blade on First Wave talking about how good this vid is and how you could almost feel the sweat dripping off the walls, so I found this and about a third of the way through I thought "this sounds exactly like the album version", so I looked at the bass player (Martin Kemp?) and sure enough, you can tell he's not actually strumming the strings. Not that lip-synching is any crime or anything, nor do I mean to be saying/implying anything derogatory against the band at all. I just thought it was interesting, and wondered if everybody was faking it or only some.
No doubt about it,Tony Hadley was and still is damned fine !!
Gorgeous Tony Hadley in this video 💖 Great song, epic fashion and star performance 🤩
Brilliant band. There was always competition with them and Duran Duran
Great tune, it's stood the test of time, like so many others.

And with Martin Kemp the best bass player, with John Keeble the best drummer, with Steve Norman the best saxophone player and percussionist and Gary Kemp as the best guitarist and composer

@@Juppalieu Martin sucks, he's not even in the conversation for average bass players. If Gary was such a good writer and composer, he would have written hits for other artists. Steven and John are perfectly good session musicians.

@@mr.balloffur 1. Gary didn’t want to write for other artist. The hit he has written have already proven to stand to test of time, often being used to reference love in media. 2. Martin only learnt bass a few years before this performance so clearly he wasn’t going to be incredible with such little experience. He had to be taught when he joined the band!!!

@@maxfr142 Do you have a source for saying Gary doesn't want to write for other people? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I doubt you'll find one. And Steve just learned the sax too, so stop making excuses for Martin's bad playing

I say they peaked with the True album. It was more consistent than Diamond, though Diamond had the few great dance/club tracks.
