Channel Islands Rocket Wide Squash Tail Surfboard Review

Ian reviews the Channel Islands Rocket Wide Squash Tail surfboard:
www.boardshop.co.uk/hub/chann...
The Channel Islands Rocket Wide surfboard in CI's latest Spine-Tek technology and now with a squash tail!. Previously The Rocket Wide has only been available in the swallow tail version but after requests from team riders the squash tail version is now available. The wave range is pretty similar, head-high and under but the squash tail is going to give a more precise surf in terms of turns, a little more hold at the top end of its wave range. The squash version is still a user friendly member of the Rocket family, squished down into a shorter and wider outline for maximum performance in weaker conditions.
Compared to the Rocket 9 the Rocket Wide has a wider tail block to glide over mush and is wider under the chest and in the nose for improved paddle power and early wave entry. It carries speed really well as the swallow tail version does but its turns that speed into a more precise cleaner turning board, if you're a swallow tail devotee the.
This clever little board is way more than a simple groveller, its got heaps more performance and just seems to "take off" and glide as soon as soon as you pop to your feet. This is definitely the board to rekindle your surfing stoke even if the waves are below waist high and not particularly inspiring.
With the five fin setup you can choose between thrusters, quads, twin + trailer and Dane has even ridden it as a straight twin so you can experiment with these different fin options to find your magic combo. Advanced surfers will ride the Rocket Wide 2 to 4" shorter than their height.
Spine-Tek technology is the result of a Channel Islands and Shapers Australia collaboration with the aim to further enhance the flex response of modern Surfboards. Spine-Tek features a precision engineered spine/stringer made from a unique blend of fibreglass and resin which replaces the original wooden stringer. This revolutionary tech is based on the principles of elastic energy; the board flexes under pressure and then rapidly returns to its original rocker-line. The speed of this response is what gives your surfboard that 'electric', zingy feel which remains for the life of the board. Watch the video below for a full technology breakdown from Britt Merrick.
Don’t forget, if the stock dims don't work for you, you can order a customised version selecting your exact dims, fin set up and fin system, check out our customizer service at Boardshop right now. All you need to do is punch in the details and pay a £100 deposit with the balance due when we ship your board roughly 6-8 weeks later.
As a premier Channel Islands stockist, we pride ourselves on giving what we think is good solid advice without any of the over-eager sales driven BS often encountered by our customers elsewhere.
We're happy to consider taking your old or unwanted board as a trade in against a surfboard, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to info@boardshop.co.uk or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250

Do you think a set of twin fin and the baby trailer would work on the Rocket Wide squash or, because of the squash tail, it’s better to be only be ridden as a thruster ?

Similar boards, the squash makes the board more skatey. The RR is fast and fun, can be harder to turn with the wider tail compared but you get great hold.

Thanks for your comment. Similar boards, the PJHP has more grovel and low end. The CI is better in a wave with more power and push.

Similar in a lot of way. Dumpster Diver has a touch more rocker in the tail.
