Changing the Preschool Classroom Environment

Note: This video audience is set for 18+ ONLY and not intended for children, but instead as an instructional resource for early childhood educators.
The past couple of weeks I noticed a huge increase in energy with my students, and that meant running in the classroom (no matter how much outdoor and gym time we got). I took a look at our classroom set up and decided to make some changes, and this is what I share in today's video. Remember: At any time during the school year, you can change things. This is where careful observation of how your students are using the environment is so important, every single day. Children get bored with doing the same thing just like adults and I agree with you we have to keep twinking until we find what works🙂

I totally agree, when things aren’t working It’s a good time to look at ways to change to make things work more smoothly

Good to hear! I might need to do a bit more tweaking when we return from spring break, but I I’ve how it’s working now!

Thank you for this ! I definitely agree and love that you bring this to light. I have a class of mainly 2s and when I set up my classroom it definitely was not set up to work with the flow of our everyday activities so I had to move almost ALL of it around. It now flows better and makes more sense for certain activities and it’s not perfect and I keep tweaking stuff as well but that’s just the life of a teacher lol. Also I would love to know or have a link to those mirrors you have where they are playing play-doh.

Yes! It really is constant tweaking as we observe how our children are using the space. As for the mirrors, they are about 6 years old and I believe from Lakeshore Learning, but I haven’t been able to find them recently. The ones I found on Amazon were way too small. 😢

There's a lot to this, but the main thing is being consistent. Choose how you want to handle certain situations and follow through with the same consequences.

Because there are 2 year olds in our class, our state licensing doesn’t allow more than 10 children per class. This year I have 9.
