A fine Scots Guard presentation with excellent sound, across a great selection of marches My old favourite, Stirling Castle and the Warrior were good to hear . The two trombone parts stood out so nicely at. 2:21

Great variety of splendid tunes on this occasion. We don't usually get so many. And every tune was stirring, and every tune was rendered note-perfect by these amazing bandsmen. What a treat,

I was delighted to have the band play Major James Howe's piece "Guards Division March" at the Changing of the Guard. I haven't heard this music in a long time. This music was written in 1969. That year, the Household Brigade rose to the rank of Household Division. It is a very memorable history!

Hi Mike!! Put me out of my indecision please, I definitely spotted one Bass Trombone, but to my ears it Sounded like 2 & as the one I spotted was nearest the Camera, I was sure he didn't sound Strong enough to be mistaken for 2. I couldn't quite see to count Pipes or to see the Bell, but there's 2 Slides in Unison & length. So Grasshopper awaits Master's Ruling! 🤔😁

Hi@@vickyRoyalHistory , and great to hear from you! There are definitely 2 Bass Trombones here, and they sound very strong. In fact the whole trombone section in this band (in my opinion of course!) is superb. When they start out from the Arch at Victoria Barracks, the Bass Trombones are the one furthest away, wearing thick glasses, and the second-nearest to the camera. Or to put it another way, as they come towards us from the Arch, counting from our left it's the 2nd one and the 5th one. As they come back down the High Street, for example seen at 09:30, it's the nearest one (with the thick glasses) and the 4th one along. I thought that "The Warrior" was excellent. I was very fortunate to be in "the right place at the right time" to film them coming straight towards the camera playing this, and to make a split-second decision to start filming from there. Like most people, I'd never heard that march before. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rJeH26Wiec2veaw.html Unfortunately, for me there's bad news concerning Windsor. I mentioned to you "health issues", and this was to do with my eyesight (which has always been a bit of a weakness for me). I've had to surrender my car driving licence and sell my car. This means that getting to Windsor will be much more difficult for me. Although I only live about 20 miles from Windsor, trying to get there by public transport looks to be very difficult and time-consuming. To add insult to injury, my sister (who lives overseas) made a brief visit to UK this week, and yesterday (5 December) kindly drove us to Windsor to see the Band of the Household Cavalry. When we got there, it just wouldn't stop raining, and it ended up being a "Wet Mount", ie without the band. The weather here is extremely frustrating when trying to plan for any sort of outdoor activities.

@@MikeM14-40 Hi Mike! Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your Eyesight! Yes, I can see how it has & will continually to have a Major Impact on your life. I'm not going to list all the things that must change for you, no point in kicking a Man while he's down, but do take heart in the fact that you'll find a way to compensate as you go on, so you can still have your pleasures in life. I sometimes think we rely on our senses too much, so that when something goes wrong, we get so despondent. You are very fortunate to have had eyesight through most of your life, so at least when someone describes something to you, you can mentally "See" it. When someone says, it's a lovely Day, Sunny & a clear Blue Sky with the odd Fluffy White Clouds, you know what that means. Imagine trying to make that mental picture, if you've been blind all your life, you don't know what Blue & White look like or a fluffy Cloud. You can feel the Sun, but you'd have no idea what Sunny looked like. It will take time to adjust, ofcourse it will, but by this time next year you'll be feeling quite Proud of Yourself, with how many different ways you've managed to cope & how many of your life's little pleasures you still have, you've just found a different way to enjoy them. You can still hear the Bands playing those Marches you love, you may not be able to see them, but you know what the different Bands look like anyway. Then again you may not lose your sight completely anyway, so you can enjoy the Videos of the Guard Changes & we can still keep in touch, which would be Wonderful! Not only for my continuing Instrument Education either, I'd like to keep in touch just to see how you're going on anyway. I'm glad that I was right about the 2 Bass Trombones, I was quite Chuffed! It means I'm listening for the sounds from each Instrument & I'm identifying them correctly. It really does make listening to the Marches a far more enjoyable thing, being able to recognise the Instruments & identifying all the various parts they're playing is Great! Take the Trombones alone, they're playing the Melody & an accompanying Counter Melody at the same Time in The Warrior, which has it's own Trombone Part, which sounds bloody Marvellous anyway. The Bass Trombonist with the Glasses made me look closely anyway, at first Glance I thought it was Sgt David Lockwood from the Irish Guards, but no Blue Plume on his Bearskin. He's a good Bass Trombonist, but nowhere near the "Man with the Lungs of Steel" from the IGs Lol. The 2nd Bass Trombone was the one with the same Slide movements I did see. I'm looking forward to when the Bands start playing Christmas Carols as their Static pieces. Brass Bands & Christmas Carols are an unbeatable Combination & it means Christmas is almost here! Please keep in Touch Mike, I'd Love to know how you are going. Remember you always have a friend on KZread, even if you'd just like to chat, we can always Work out a way for Private Chat if you don't want the whole World to know your Business, I'll ask MOTH, he'll know how to do it. Take Care & Stay Safe! If I don't see you before Christmas, you have a Wonderful Christmas!

Hi@@vickyRoyalHistory , and many thanks for your kind thoughts. Most of the eyesight problem is not new, but means that I don't meet the particular standard for driving. I'll carry on with looking for alternative "transport solutions" so I can carry on with enjoying, and hopefully filming, the guard changes and bands.

@@MikeM14-40 Hi Mike! Sorry I've taken so long to reply, it's been 1 of those weeks this week, just 1 thing after another & before I realised it, I had to finish setting the End of Term Exam for the 2nd years at Uni. I had to get it to the Printing Centre on Campus by today or the Papers wouldn't be ready for Exams Week. I had it all planned & the Questions set, thank goodness, it was just correlating it in the right Chronological order. Well! this may sound strange, but I'm glad I misunderstood your meaning, because it means it won't be quite so bad for you! It will obviously mean some changes, but not quite so much all at once. I was telling MOTH about your problem & about having to give up driving (I hope you don't mind) & he came up with something that may be worth trying, I can't think how I was so Stupid not to have thought of it myself because I did the arranging! My late Parents in law, lived i Redditch, about 20 miles South of Birmingham. Ma was crippled with Arthritis, her shoulders were Frozen & she had it all through her Spine, Hips, all her joints really & She was pretty much house bound & in constant pain, the poor Darling, she had her Wheelchair & a walker, so she really needed looking after. There were a couple of other things as well, but Mobility was the worst, she used to read a lot & she had the Telly, we paid for Sky for her, because she often couldn't sleep in Bed at night for the pain, so she could watch Telly. Pa, Bless him, took early retirement so he could be her Full time Carer, unfortunately, he had Health issues too as he got older. He used to walk up to town, do the shopping etc & they managed ok. MOTH came back to NZ with me in 2000, his Sister who lived 20 mins walk away from them, was supposed to keep an eye on them & help out because ofcourse MOTH wouldn't be there. Originally the Plan was get settled, make sure MOTH liked living here & then we'd bring Ma & Pa here to live with us. That all fell through, because Pa decided they'd be better to stay there. MOTHs Sister turned out to be as useful as a Chocolate Tea Pot. She'd keep postponing their trips to Hospital appointments because her & her Husband (Who was the biggest Drip Whisker you ever saw, with the personality of a wet dish cloth) were going on Holiday or she didn't want to be bothered. So I had enough, especially when Ma let it slip that Pa had Angina & wasn't able to walk up to the town for Groceries & Sister dear had taken themselves off to a 3 week Cruise up the Danube, but had only got 1/2 of what they had on the list! Anyway, to cut an incredibly long Story Short. I set up an account with Tesco & each week we'd ring & get their Grocery Orders, then I'd order it & pay for it online, then it got delivered to their door, they even carried it in & unpacked it on to the Bench for them. That maybe something that will help now you're not Driving. I also rang West Midlands Ambulance Service, had a chat to them, because we have a Health Shuttle Service here, run by St Johns Ambulance, I wanted to find out if they had something similar, turns out they did & they'd take you to any Medical Appointments, not just at the Hospital, but Optometrists, Dentists, Hearing Centre, your GP etc. So I used to ring them when either Ma or Pa had an appointment & arrange for them to be picked up & they could accommodate Ma's Chariot (Wheelchair, because she Loves Ben Hur) so that worked out well, the Service is Free but you can make a Donation, so I used to send them £100 it was well worth it for the Peace of mind, they got to the appointment when they needed to. I also phoned Age Concern, they helped out Brilliantly. There was a Call service, when they rang once a week to see how they were doing & to have a chat, there were Volunteer Drivers you could use, Lol We shouted Ma a trip to a Hairdresser for her Birthday, the AC Driver came & picked her up + Chariot, took her to the Hairdresser, then took her to a Café for a Cuppa & a Cakie & stopped on the way home to get Cod & Chips X 2 for their Dinner. It cost me £20! So it became a Monthly trip for Ma & Pa to go out for a Morning, even just to the Mall, for a little walk about, then a Cuppa & a Cakie. The thing is, if you call your Local Age Concern, they may have things that could help you. Of course I don't know your Financial state, it may be unaffordable for you, but at least you can see what's available. Oh Dear, this is turning into the abridged version of War & Peace! it's 1.10am 😯🥱I'd better take myself off to bed. Hope this gives you some ideas Mike, Chin up & keep Smiling, Catch you again soon 😘🤭🤫

Oh YES! We likes "The Warrior"!! Goodness me Another First for me. I think there's always something Special about a March written by a Bandsman from a Guards Regiment, Current or Former & his Regimental Band plays it. The Heads are held that little bit higher, the Shoulders a bit straighter, the Chests puffed out with Pride (or that could be effort of Blowing their Instruments) & there's a little bit of a Swagger. So there should be too! it takes a bit of extra Talent to write & arrange a piece of Music for a March, with Multi Faceted Instruments & a set in stone Tempo, so let's raise a wee Dram to David Jackson a Former Scots Guards Musician. Great Video Mr BFE! We have been Spoilt during November, Lots of New Marches, Lots of Old Marches with the Dust Blown off & some GPCM (General Purpose Current Marches) I can Hum along to. Great Audio to match the Great Video. Thank You!!

lol. I played Gobbo in a mil band ( British) for over 16 yrs. and although I love to see the pipers, I absolutely hate the sound of them. I think it stems from doing loads of massed bands and whenever we were doing rehearsals for gigs, you could always rely on hearing the pipers screaming away in the background between performances. You would think that they would have had their daily “fix” of hearing themselves after the performances etc lol. I used to call them the “agony-bags”. The Germans had a good and apply named name. “The doudle sacks “. Forever doudling away .
