The respect shown by the Sentinels to the Unknowns is amazing. For example, we don't know the rank of the Unknowns. So that they won't inadvertently outrank him, they wear no rank on their sleeves. (The Captain of the Guard does wear rank, and wears a sidearm with wooden grips fashioned from the deck of the USS Olympia, the ship that brought the first Unknown to the US from France following WWI.) The Old Guard is the only unit in the Army permitted to guard with fixed bayonets, in honor of their heroic bayonet charge during the Battle of Cerro Gordo, Mexican-American War. Their buff arm straps are in memory of the rucksacks carried by the first Old Guard unit during the Battle of Fallen Timbers (Revolutionary War).

There are no Officers at the Tomb. Highest rank is the Sergeant of the Guard, a Sergeant First Class. Relief Commanders are Staff Sergeants.

@@tommyodonnell9 Sen Tom Cotton's book Sacred Duty describes the duties of officers as part of The Old Guard. You're right; they're not at the tomb. I should have written Sergeant of the Guard vs. Captain.

Cudos and my deepest respect to the Army's Third Infantry Battalion. These incredible men do their solemn duty twenty four seven, all weather. I hope to visit the tomb, someday during the very worst weather imaginable, to salute the brave man on duty. Semper Fi, R. KUNKLE USMC 1969

Got to chaperone my father who has Alzheimer’s and 40 other veterans from WWII and Korea on Honor Flight DFW to DC to see all the War Memorials. It was a very moving trip and our last one before he passed. I’m sorry you didn’t like the video. He talked about it for months. 🇺🇸

Клоунада, особенно с проверкой оружия! Что, времени не было проверить до этого и не устраивать это пустое шоу?
