My Commandant. I had just learned how to properly salute and was walking across the parade deck when a lot of brass headed toward my direction. I kept going and gave my first actual salute. "That's a sharp salute, Marine." One of them said. As I walked further an officer strode back to me, and said "Recruit, you just received a compliment from General PX Kelly, Commandant of the United States Marine Corps." I responded with "Sir, that's my first actual salute." The Officer grinned and said the Commandant would be very pleased to hear that." I still love the Marine Corps.

We must be about the same age. I was stationed at 8th & I St when P X Kelley took over from Barrow. I remember when Kelley had his photo in Charlies with the V neck t shirt.
At the 26:00 minute timeframe, you see the Marine Body Bearers. What they do is awesome. The Marines use 6 men instead of 8. They also carry the casket at shoulder height the entire time. Lastly, they are the only service that raises the the entire casket above their heads. So no man stands higher than you, before they lay you to rest. These men are dedicated professionals.

PX Kelley was my commandant at the time I joined the Corps in '85. RIP, Sir. Until we muster again.
He was our last Distinguished Speaker at the Army Command and General Staff College in 1985. My classmates came to me after the visit and said "Let's get rid of all the generals in the Army and give us a few Marines like General Kelley." I was proud a Marine. He was incredible as a Marine and our Commandant.

I'll never forget driving onto MacDill AFB and seeing General P. X. Kelly's home right there next to the bay.
General PX Kelly was the Commandant when I was in the Service....in 1993 after I had gotten out, he was the speaker at the Marine Corps Ball in Tampa Florida. I went up to meet him at 9 months pregnant and he touched my stomach and he said,"Oh Another Future Marine I See"...lol....He was a great Man..RIP

Farewell, General. It was an honor served under you.
My Commandant in the 1980s. Had great respect for him. RIP, sir.
My grandfather, formally known as General JK Davis and ACMC worked along side General PX Kelly as his Assistant Commandant. He passed about 6 months before General Kelly. Attending this type of funeral on May 5th 2021. Shall they meet again! Rest In Peace General Kelly. General Davis hopes to see you soon!

I met him and his family at the hospital about a year or two ago. he and his family were nice folks. we had a short conversation as we were both military, but different branches. my condolences.
I was Army, not Marine Corps but everyone knew who P.X. Kelley was. His men gave him a fitting send off. He would be proud.
General Kelly was my company commander at 2nd Force Recon when he was a captain and I was a corporal. This was 1958. RIP Sir, Semperfi.

I was a "Plank Owner" at the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force Headquarters, Special Operations Capable, MacDill AFB., Tampa, FL, (RDJTF HDQTRS, SPEOPS), precursor to SOCOM. I was a Lance Corporal, heard two Officers at Marine Corps HDQTRS talking about how they needed to find some Enlisted Marines to fill these Billets followed them into their office and volunteered. LTGEN P.X. Kelley was the CINC, USAF, MGEN Taylor, and USA, BGEN Steiner were the rest of the command staff. General Kelley was by any amount of measure, the best Officer I ever served for. He saved my butt literally from some things that should never have been handed me, and he promoted me twice. His autographed picture still hangs on our living room wall. I still have all the photos of him holding our oldest Son at my awards ceremony for Joint Service Member of the Quarter and Year awards. An Army Captain told my Wife and I; we should not have brought him to the awards ceremony, General Kelly said, " nonsense, I'm a grandfather and this is the next Generation of Marine" and carried him around and played with him for most of the ceremony. When he left to become Commandant, he told me, "SGT Seaton, if you ever need to speak with me, drop me a line", truly a compassionate Man and a stellar Marine Officer. Semper Fidelis, General.

A great man and a gallant warrior. I am honored to have known the general.
Although I never got to meet this man, I wish to say Thank You, sir. `From a grateful citizen of these United States that you so proudly served and protected.
I had met the General a number of times when I worked for Admiral James D. Watkins, CNO at the time, but it was a number of years later I saw him for the last time at Washington National Airport (Reagan). The General was waiting in line to check in for his flight, and it was the first time I saw him as a civilian citizen. We talked for a few minutes and he assured me he remembered me, but he met thousands of folks during his career. When I think of a Marine or meet a Marine, he's the yardstick I measure them against.

What a beautiful send off for General Kelly. First time witnessing a grateful army (USA Marine Corps) farewell for a General, the formalities of respect, care, traditions and admiration is shown to all of us. The old Irish lore of a rainfall on a persons funeral means General Kelly is in Heaven. RIP General Kelly. Amen

I remember when my father was promoted to colonel and General Kelly was at the wetting down party that was given. He wrote a thank you note to my mother and my dad told her that she should frame the letter because the General was going to be the Commandant of the Marine Corps one day and that happened in 1974.
RIP General and Thank you for your service.

Amazing. This is a true hero.

It's so sad when you think about it that so many people in the military have died in war like the soldiers who died on D-Day in 1944 in Omaha beach in France as they came ashore they got gunned down by Nazi machinegun fire while others made it back to the United States alive and had a family and lived out the rest of their lives while the dead are buried in foreign soil not knowing that those who went to war that they would never see their love ones again

Why do the soldiers touch their shoulders when folding the flag (see starting at 39: 30) ? The folding of the flag is sad - and magnificent: it moves me to tears whenever I see it. The soldiers fold the flag with precision, dedication and patriotism. These are standards we should all look up to. General Kelley, rest in peace.

To absolutely to make sure that it is folded correctly and tight. The Marines use the shoulder point method to alert the rest of honor guards on team that the flag is the process of being folded and that everyone on team needs be to holding tightly on flag to smooth out the creases and sure theirs no bulges, and is tightly flat on all 3 points to presented to their Love ones.
