Meet Lou Reason.
Lou completed the certificate III in Non-emergency Patient Transport with APC in 2022.
"I found it to be a great experience. Also very life changing for me after having one career for so long."
Lou worked for the Defense Force for 32 years and when posted to Perth, she worked for the Ambulance as a volunteer and thoroughly enjoyed it. but got posted away.
She didn't want to spend another 10 years in a job she ultimately didn't like, but questioned whether she was smart enough to follow her passion.
"I did some research, and found that non-emergency transport at my age is probably where I'd like to be. So still helping people, but not being at that adrenaline junkie, paramedic side of things."
Lou found studying with APC worked well for her.
"I haven't studied for a long time. Everything was laid out very well. Everyone [was] friendly, supportive, felt like a little community pretty much from the start. Every step along the way there I knew I had someone that had my back, and then the workshop that was just brought everything together."
It is a big step for anyone to change career and industries after decades of working life.
But Lou has not looked back and she is enthusiastic about encouraging other to do the same, if they feel they are not following their passion.
"It's a big step for I think you've gotta stop and think to yourself, Is this what I really want? Is this my passion? And when you come back with that answer that says, Grasp it. Go for it. No regrets. Like hindsight's a wonderful thing, isn't it? Wish I had done it years ago. Do it. Don't be stuck in the same job forever."
