The broadway run really seemed to de-emphasize Jo’s non binary from ART from what I remembered between seeing the two. The broadway run seemed to need to inject some humor into it to lighten the subject matter. I enjoyed both, but the ART performances were just more raw and hit a bit harder.

saw jade on tour the other day, i was so overcome with emotion (in the best way) when they sang you oughta know, it’s officially my favorite show i’ve ever seen thanks to them

I’ve seen jade twice now, and they were absolutely incredible both times and sang their heart out.

I will say that my favorite version for the last clip was the art version like it was just so deep and emotional like you outta know is a song about betrayal and to be called miscellaneous and then a girl after you found out that your bsf who you liked and pursued thought you guys were only playing around is just so emotional.

I didn’t see the Art performance but I saw it on Broadway five times. When it reopened after covid the dialogue had changed. I saw it in previews as well and little changes were made too if I recall. Interesting vid.

Thank you for this! Just ushered at a tour stop and I missed the Disney Princess line but couldn’t find it anywhere!

I’m just glad that Jo is a non-binary lesbian again; and in the case of the Australian production, I’m glad that they are being cast appropriately. Maggie McKenna themself confirmed that Jo is non-binary on their Instagram story. I’m hoping the tour and West End production will do the same. Only then will I consider seeing the show. Also, is it me, or do the JLP slime manufacturers always seem to have a fascination with the same angle? All the clips here, plus the slime tutorial with iris menas are all filmed on the same side. Just a thought…

My uncle took me to this and I was so excited when I found out one of the characters was non-binary (like me!) but then we got there and I couldn’t even tell who it was meant to be. Watching this honestly breaks my heart- Jo deserves so much better. We all deserve so much better.

@Emma Barber looking at the cast list on that and I have to laugh as iris now goes by zie/hir pronouns and Kei who is on the tour goes by she/they pronouns plus their characters name is now Danni instead of David as she now identifies as trans femme.

This honestly makes me so so sad... I love the music in the show, and have mixed emotions towards seeing it. The tour is coming to my city next fall, and my parents really want to go see it, and I love Alanis Morrisette and want to support her, but just do not understand how she, as a Canadian Female and human rights activist, would condone something like this. Does anyone know how much she was involved in this show? I am so conflicted 😟 I want to support a fellow Canadian artist, but not Trans erasure

Lauren Patten, who played Jo on Broadway, was a cis-woman (a cis-person is a person that identifies as their gender they got at birth). Jo was written as non-binary, meaning that they had to change many things in the script to make Jo just a normal female lesbian. Luckily for the tour, they casted Jade McLeod, who’s non-binary

if you mean the scene with jo and frankie after that i would be good, the equivalent scene in the ART version doesn't include any dialogue concerning jo. it's about jo finding out about frankie and phoenix's relationship, and then they go to bella's house. the scene wasn't changed from broadway preview to reopening.
