Worked great for me, not a drop of oil drained when I swapped out the oil plugs. 👍

I got so excited when you removed the bolt, it made the noise I was expecting but better.

this is a genius idea, it worked for me with a house vacuum, saving me 5qt mobile 1 oil and the environment. thanks!

I can confirm this works. Just make sure anything you put in under the oil cap is clean so dirt and other particles don't fall in.

How can you be sure it's not sucking dirt into your engine? Seems like front and rear main seal, pcv, gaskets, etc are possible paths for dirt to enter

Obviously clean the area around the drain plug first. I’m really not worried about pulling dirt in through an oil seal. The PCV should prevent back flow and be connected to the clean air side of the intake system anyway.

Yes, any household vacuum or shop vac should be fine. I believe I picked up that adapter at Ace Hardware, but Sears should have it as well or any Home Depot Lowes etc.

Wondering if this would work on a 50 gallon hydraulic tank 🤔

Might be a little too much weight to create enough vacuum without collapsing the can.

Didn’t you just end up sucking oil into your vacuum?

No, just a very small amount of vapor in the tip of the hose. It helps to do this with cold oil (less vapor).
