    I was glad to see this was just as much of a pain for Wade as it is for me. Always kind of thought I was doing it the hard way. I always empty the bowl first before pulling the filter. I'm done using the stock Fleetguard filters. So many times the plastic lid nearly separated from the filament when pulling it out. And then one day it did. What a mess that was. Now I use the NAPA Gold. 7 micron and heavier construction. However now I'm interested in this Baldwin 5 micron filter. Think I'll try that next. That's why I like these videos and forms. Gets people talking and sharing. UPDATE: Just received my Baldwin 5 micron. Haven't installed it yet but took a good look at it and really like the construction. Update: Used the Baldwin 5 micron PF7977 two times now and it's working great.

    I believe most of the contaminants in the fuel system come from the filthy pump nozzle at the gas stations. Right before the tank fills and foam washes the dirt off the nozzle and into the tank I hand hold the nozzle a bit higher and make sure that doesn't happen!

    I’ve recently found a fuel filter that filters down to 5 micron instead of the 7 the stock fleetguard does. It’s a Baldwin, part number PF7977. I switched to it with my last filter change. You can’t go wrong with better filtration. Even if it is only 2 microns, thats 2 microns smaller you’re cleaning your fuel

    That's what I use is the Baldwin 5 micron now,always used the Fleetguard before on my 03 Dodge Cummins 5.9. In fact when I bought the truck new the Fleetguard fuel filters then was rated at 10 micron. Also when I replaced the o ring I always use a little dab of new grease around the threads and the o ring to help get a better easier on seal.

    I don't understand why Thoroughbred Diesel would put a stock filter back in especially when that was one of the main causes of injector failures on a 24 valve common rail. I get mine at Cummins and I believe they go down to 2 micron. Stock filter was only good to 10 micron and I believe the Cummins recommendation for the common rail was 5 micron and Dodge said No 10 will do...

    Has anyone ever experienced the following issue after replacing their fuel filter: When I replaced my filter this last time I noticed quite a bit of sediment in the bowl and we decided to clean it out. We drained the bowl and had to use some suction to get all the sediment (as our hands were too big to get into the bowl to the bottom). I think this caused a problem with it staying primed. When we replaced the filter and attempted to start the vehicle, as explained it this video, it started but only ran a couple of seconds and died. I did not hear the fuel pump engage when the key was turned on. We attempted a number of times, but couldn't get it started and didn't see any fuel entering the bowl when the key was turned on. A mechanic friend said to put ATF in the bowl and reinstall the filter. This worked in priming the truck and it started up. It has been running since then, but shortly afterwards it started doing something odd. When you started the truck and left it to idle, instead of idling at about 750 RPMs it would rev up to around 1,000 RPMs, then sometimes after a few minutes it would idle back down. When in gear it would return to the 750 and move according to the speed being traveled, but whenever you would put it in park it would again rev up to around 1,000 RPMs. I've asked, but no one seems to know why it is doing this. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

    You can remove the inlet bolt at the CP3 and get a fuel pressure bolt that we offer to be able to screw any 1/8 NPT fuel pressure gauge into.

    If oil level is rising, probably suspect something going on with your injectors or high pressure injections system. Have injectors tested and the overall engine compression tested as well.

    I have an issue maybe you can help with. 2004 5.9. Truck would overfuel on occasion and actually ran away on me, requiring me to turn off ignition. It has over 200000 miles and I thought it would be a good time to install a complete set of injectors. After install I ran the unit up and checked for leaks, all good. I shut down and afterwards developed a no start problem. Checked lift pump operation ok. Cracked 1 3 4 injectors and found minimal pressure present. Im thinking rail relief valve issue, what are your thoughts.

  • @thoroughbreddiesel

    @thoroughbreddiesel

    8 ай бұрын

    Never open injection lines on a common rail. Also, when the lines are open the system will not build pressure enough to start. That being said, I would think that you have a feed tube that isn't torqued correctly. Retorque all feed tubes.

    Thank you for this! I've just had to replace my injectors and the believed cause was this truck having the 7 micron stock filters used. That isn't nearly enough filtration I was told. I almost bought a new lift pump just for the filters being 2 microns but 3 in the stock housing is great! 06 3500 with a raptor 4g lift pump, no filters.

    Don't you drain the fuel filter to make sure any dirty diesel gets out of the system. This way you could be washing the exterior of the filter into the canister, new filter goes in and some of the dirty fuel bypasses the filter

  • @wheyez1
    @wheyez12 жыл бұрын

    I would add Vaseline to the orings, and the threads. Also it’s best if you don’t touch the filter bare handed. The oils from your hand can mess with the water separating ability, use gloves.
