I’m sharing our overnight trip experience to Chandragiri Hills in this video.
Chandragiri Hill is Seven km uphill from Thankot, a gateway to the Kathmandu Valley. Cable Car length is 2.5 km. It lies on the southwest side of the Valley. It is 2,551 metres above sea level.
The hill provides panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan ranges from Annapurna to Everest.
The sacred temple of Lord Shiva, Bhaleshwor Mahadev, is located atop Chandragiri Hill. Chandragiri Hill is one of the trendy hill stations near the Kathmandu Valley, where you can enjoy the snowfall during winter.
Additionally, Chandragiri Hill has an important historical significance. It is said that the Founder of modern-day Nepal, Prithvi Narayan Shah, was spellbound by the astonishing view of Kathmandu valley from the top of Chandragiri hill while on his way to Gorkha, his small hill kingdom at the time.
It is believed that, at that moment, he decided to conquer the beautiful and prosperous Kathmandu valley. He had, however, previously visited Kathmandu Valley and spent three years at Bhaktpur Durbar during the reign of Ranjit Malla, when he was just ten years old.
