    Open frame is much easier to work on and rugged due to the frame. If someone would make an aftermarket aluminum airbox it would help quiet down that open frame generator. I love how all that epa stuff is missing on the open frame… Im definitely buying the open frame because noise is not a problem

    *Came packaged perfectly. This **Generater.Systems** is awesome! No problems starting on Propane. Three cranks and it lit up. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a bigger generator for a camper or to have during a power outage. Dual fuel source is the way to go!!!*

    Yes, as long s you have enough fuel it can run non stop and as long as oil level is good. That should be checked every time before you run it.

    Propane generators are useless in cold weather. I’ve had several and they don’t like to start when it’s cold. The only good thing about dual fuel generators is that they can take gasoline.

    First off- Owen Wilson The added features and quiet operation of the enclosed model is nice, but I literally bought 2 of these open frame generators from Tractor Supply for basically the same price as the enclosed. Although they are not as quiet as the closed frame models, they are noticeably quieter than conventional non-inverter open frames.

    First off… correct!!! 😀👍🏼 Second, exactly you can buy two for the price of one, have a ton of power and simplicity and yes quieter then the older non inverter “construction “ type gens.

    Not necessarily that much quieter than conventional non-inverter. Only when they're running slower which is a partial load. At full load is the same thing. The generator just spins it creates no noise, the inverter is just an electrical device it creates no noise.... You're only noise comes from the engine and if the engine is the same the noise is going to be the same. The industry has different standards for measuring inverter and non inverter generators when you see the numbers. Typically inverter generators are measured at 25% load at 23 ft... So they show low noise levels at low RPM. Non inverter are typically measured at 50% load so they're considerably higher. At full loads/rpm almost all bigger generators are surprisingly loud. And if they have the same engine they're basically going to be the same loudness. The inverter can run at lower RPM and parcel loads so it may be quieter at 50% load than a non-inter still but when you get it to 100%, they're both going to be the same. Further if you take that sound meter and measure up close some of them are amazingly loud to be right next to them, almost 100 The larger the engines get the more noise there is that is an insurmountable problem. Most of the noise is engine noise, not exhaust if it's well muffled. Do they there is a trend of some inverters to run smaller engines at higher RPM to reduce size and weight. All Honda engines were designed to run 3600 RPM max, and so the clones that they're derived from The Hondas are basically the same way. But some of these inverters from China today are running smaller engines at 4,000 to 5,000 RPM to lighten the weight. They will be less durable generators for sure. Now, buying the quietest you can get is worth it. Because all these things are annoyingly loud and both to yourself and your neighbors. Even if you're going to do some sound mitigation yourself at home the lower noise you can start with the lower your final result will be. It is definitely worth a few hundred extra dollars. Btw... The need for an inverter is highly overrated most synchronous generators with AVR automatic voltage regulation are fine for electronics.... That is marketing marketing marketing that people are led to believe. They're big advantage comes that they run at lower RPM at partial load and are quieter at partial loads

  • @johnnysweekends

    @johnnysweekends

    Жыл бұрын

    I agree most the noise you here is engine noise. Intake noise, crank and cylinder head ticking and clicking and then finally exhaust. Intake sometimes can be very noisy. But a lot of electronics today are becoming more sensitive and need the same type of power coming out of a standard home. Minimal distortion and a clean sine wave. The regular construction generators as we seem to call them, some have a pretty dirty output. Fine for tools and such but some items may not charge or run on a dirty input to protect it self.

    @@johnnysweekends no doubt there are some poor ones and there are even generators without AVR and that's where most of this worry came from. I have run my house for a week several times on a 20-year-old champion non inverter generator.... That includes computers, router, Smart TVs etc......... Never had any issues. The problem is way overblown..... It's all marketing. There are cheap inverters that produce square wave step signals that are far worse for electronics than a synchronous generator.... The cheap type you typically buy to hook up to your cars lighter plug..... Are Square wave..... Yeah electronics may not work at all on those.

    Tool-Time Tom's sidekick (don't remember his name)? Nice review. On a recent sale with promo cards, I bought the PowerHorse open-frame similar to this Champion you test here. It has an L14-30 240V receptacle instead of the 120V RV receptacle. Also has a dedicated small, forced-air cooling fan for the electronics unit. Like the Champion here, it has all the fittings and lugs, etc, already on the frame to accept a wheel kit. A couple of locking casters for the front, some pipe with homemade brackets for the handles with rubber bicycle handgrips, some steel round rod stock, and some cotter pins for the axle, along with 2 "replacement for Radio Flyer red wagon" wheels makes for a dandy homebuilt wheel kit for these open frame inverters. It's quite practical to have around the house for the south Florida power outages. Cheers!

    Another nice comparison video. I've always noticed WEN sells a 3500 running watt open frame inverter for $393 right on their website, it's probably one of the best values as far as power to price is concerned. Have always been curious as to what the sound difference was with these open frames, this video answers my question. I'll stick with the more expensive closed frames for sure!

    @@catfishwhisper5970 I've not shopped for a while so I don't know what dealrs are out there. When it got it, I think the avg price was $999 or something. But there were vendors that had price fluctuations including Walmart and ESPECIALLY Amazon. I don't remember all the details now but I was including Rakuten rebates (I think that was up to 10%?) and the vendor made an error with my order and so credited me some, and then there was credit card rebate. After all in, it was $650 which was a killer steal. Bur during that period, I could get the same all day long a bit north of $800. I think the market was flush with those units at that time. We've gone through quite a few power outages and it has been absolutely rock steady and we get about 12 hours per small tank of propane for our home with 2 full size refrigerators and running various computers. Though sipping with other appliances and cooking using electricity as minimally as we can. Well worth it.

    It's only more quiet when it's running lower than max output. An open frame inverter generator will be the same loudness as a non inverter generator at 90%-100% load, which most people run them at 50-70%, so It definitely is quieter most of the time.

    Well I can tell you right now a generator would be costly running a normal house for everyday use. If you setup a tiny house using solar, batteries and a generator and a mini split for heater and cooling or mini wood stove then you could probably do it if it was super insulated. Normal house on a generator you would go broke. Would be a combination of solar and batteries and even wind to try to stay ahead and the up front cost is a pretty Penny.

  • @randybobandy9828

    @randybobandy9828

    Жыл бұрын

    @electriccuts you're getting about 6-7kwh of energy per gallon of gas in these generators. Maybe 8kw if you're running it close to 100%(closer to full load the better efficiency) so a gallon of gas is about $3.45 right now where I live. Divide that out and it comes to $0.49/kwh compare that to my rate for power from the grid @ $0.068 which is 7.2x more expensive to run the generator. Now I admit my electricity rate is super cheap and less than HALF the cost of the national average of $0.166. So running gas is still 2.95x more expensive vs the national average. It's never going to be worth it. Just use it for back up power. Funny enough Germanys power is so expensive that they are paying $1.00 per kwh (because of the war) so even running my generator it's less than half of what they pay. No thanks. 👎

    What's the real purpose of remote start? Shouldn't you power down your equipment prior to shut down, and you shouldn't you either unplug the generator or open a breaker prior to start up? It seems harmful to allow the generator to just come up to speed as circuits are closed and power is being delivered.

  • @johnnysweekends

    @johnnysweekends

    Жыл бұрын

    Remote start has a lot of purposes. But yes you still wanna power down like you should. A lot of Rvers like it. I have done the same. I can press the button it will fire up with no load. Let it run for about a minute or so and crank up ac or microwave or what ever you need. Leaving your generator plug from your Rv is fine. I also leave my converter off so the Gen doesn’t charge the batteries. So the Gen is never on a load at start up.

    Remote is for being able to start the generator from inside the RV. Yes you want to power the generator with nothing plugged its not about actually have a plug connected, it's about having a load running. So before you remote start your generator just flip the main breaker in your rv off and the back on once the gen is warmed up.
