I'm rescuing a mature male chameleon later this week and this is one of the most helpful cage videos I've seen so far. Thank you so much for doing this - great job!

27:04 DAMN, not only is this about habitat building but all the lowdown on bulbs and temp and lighting and even per AGE. it's a whole ass 101 and it's amazing. i was struggling to find info of building stuff like this, though i started with mantis enclosures. but this should have 1M likes, it's so good. i feel like i could go straight off this one guide and have most of what i needed. and, sometimes, being new, you just want someone who has experience to tell you wtf to get, just to get rolling. research is fine but you can get overwhelmed to start, and you can do more researchy stuff after getting your first setup. i could do that for other people on certain topics, and impart my trial and error and save them YEARS... but it's nice if someone can do that back, with guides like this. kept snakes for a bit but the setup can be different and honestly no one was there to give me ideas about how enclosures COULD be. :/ i didn't have a lot of resources as a kid, on that first one, it was a wild preg corn snake that a friend's cousin bought stuff for and hatched the eggs, giving me one of the little guys. which, honestly, was the best most chill snake ever. complete opposite of the black and white banded kingsnake who was aggressive AF and got me out of the whole thing entirely. (woulda been nice if the shop let me know that ahead. :( i sort of discovered later after researching.) anyway i always loved chameleons but thought they were impossible and if you look at them sideways, they die of shock and fall off their branch. the same friend had a couple teeny ones, on a fake small tree, and.... recent vids, i see why that went wrong. no controlled moisture or lights. so it kind of opened that up again. saw an overpriced cham at the pet store, still cool little guy, and it just makes me really wanna do this more. but i'd go to a proper exotics store or local breeder or whatever first. (do people breed them? i know they do with snakes and aquarium fish. i'll find out.) thanks a ton. i'll check out more of your channel. i appreciated the background music haha.

bro that tiny manual drill thing is awesome. i have a lot of tools and never came across that! using floral wire with it is genius! i was sitting here wondering how you were going to attach stuff when it was all screen! (i do aquariums and recently watched people do vivariums and terrariums but those too were glass.

I am moving my anole back to a large reptibreeze. My cats ruined the last one and I have had them in a 40b double door terrarium. I just bought a bunch of 1/4 inch dowels to do almost the same. BUT I am making a U shaped frame for inside with cross bars top, center and bottom. Glued and tied with twine. I am also adding velcro to the back and sides for coroplast going up until 3 inches from the top to help hold humidity in during the dry winter months and I guess the dry ac months..lol

finished! ok, the only thing i think you didn't cover was HOW to keep ambient temperature cool or cold. in warmer climates or not running the ac to 50, how exactly is that supposed to work? i've seen the suggestion of ice but that seems unsustainable, more like what you'd do in an emergency, not as a daily. (ps. also saw by the end that you do raise and sell these guys. good to know!) this is my first vid so maybe you covered that topic in another one...

you could try expanding foam but definitely find one that’s non toxic to animals bc that would be awful. you could also try suction cups but those are known to fall lol.

I am wondering if I leave my enclosure top off, with a tree he could climb on and maybe a humidifier in that corner to make it comfortable. I’m wondering if he will go back and forth and explore comfortably or will I have to put him back manually…. I’d like to come up with a way to give him freedom and be comfortable but given the color changing, he could be hard to get back 😎🥸🖖 any suggestions or information greatly appreciated

Yes very stressful! Building one is the easy part for me. The hard part is the lights (especially colors and watts) food, and handling! My son is wanting one and saving up for it. There are so many opinions and I just need a cheat sheet or something! I'm so stressed out rn! It's been 2 weeks since researching and I'm just scared to make the wrong decisions. SMH 🥺

Good video.. My only concern is advising people to use fake plants. These can harbor bacteria and are not good for chameleon enclosures. Also using zip ties inside the enclosure is not a good idea. I got my chameleon Stubby from a breeder who had no idea his tail had gotten stuck in a zip tie. By the time he noticed, Stubby had lost the bottom part of his tail. Just some words of advice.

Use a mister, you can also cut sections of clear shower curtain to roll down the sides to help keep moisture in. You can also set up and keep aquariums which increase the moisture in the cham area.
