**Challengers** was the HARDEST serve!! ~ Movie Reaction

Фильм және анимация

Okay this movie was such a serve... The last 10 minutes was absolute cinema, the shots, the music, the slow mo, perfectionnnn!!! Imagine my surprise when I saw people online calling ART the villain?!?! Nevermind the fact that there isn't a 'villain' in the first place, but out of the three, you're saying Art is?!?! BARBS, STAY IN SCHOOL

I LOVED every messy, complicated, toxic, co-dependent minute of this movie! There's nothing cookie cutter about it. Best film I've seen in the last few years! Just BRILLIANT!

Tashi just wanted a good tennis. And tennis was synonymous with sex. The shot with the three of them during the game explained it

I LOVEEEEE male characters with natural chemistry. Or always made me think more happened. But I find it interesting we only ever see Patrick be homself with ART, he’s always saying “I feel bad” “or I miss him” or “I’m worried about him. Patrick can only express himself in physical ways, and I think he loved Art.

he matured the most out of all, patrick and tashi are still playing those stupid games. art is abused and lonely in his marriage, used by tashi to satisfy her former ambitions, unwanted and undesired (we never really see them have sex or be passionate, she always rejects him and is cold towards him). someone even suggested that her daughter might be patrick’s. either way, art has definitely done the least bullshit out of all, his only mistake was not being confident enough in the beginning and ‘letting’ patrick date tashi in the first place. patrick only slept with her as a way to get closer to art, since they were so tied together

@@peculliar Art is still immature, too, because he doesn't blame the proper person for his relationship being unsatisfying and rocky. Art tried to sow seeds of doubt in Patrick and Tashi's relationship and completely stopped talking to him to get with Tashi. Also, it takes two to tango. Tashi bares most, if not all, the responsibility for the affair. Art needs to take some of his anger out on his wife for her infidelity and threatening to leave him if he quits tennis. Secondly, Art being 19 years old when he betrayed his best friend doesn't absolve him of anything, especially since he's still acting like he did nothing wrong 13 years later. Patrick and Tashi's relationship was toxic, especially because Tashi only wanted to talk about tennis. However, Art going on about how "Patrick doesn't love her" and that she deserves to be worshipped gave Tashi enough ammo to pit the two men against each other. Though, Art grew up when it came to gaining money and fame, but he didn't seem to grow up emotionally. He still worshipped Tashi like Jesus (he actually compared her to Jesus) instead of seeing her as the human being she is and became her lap dog thus instead of confronting Tashi for her faults like infidelity and disregard of his emotions, he blames all of his relationship woes on Patrick-including what happened in Atlanta.

@@cutienerdgirl i totally see your point, and you did a great job of explaining your view and articulating it so well. however, it all sounds a bit like victim blaming to (referring to their ‘current’ situation, cause i never said that i condone his past behavior). either way, it is all left up to interpretation so i guess we each see it through the lens of our own experiences

WHERE do you see he blames all that to Patrick? Also he just discovered that Patrick slept with her in the middle of the game, how is he supposed to confront her about that at that time?

  • @whiistlingwinds

First of all, ART was the one who forced Tashi to put their marriage up as an ultimatum, he kept pushing her for her to "coach him" aka give him some motivation so he can win the match against Patrick. She even askes h>m right after she says that "I'm serious, does that help you?" She's literally checking in on him if thats what HE wants to hear so he can feel satisfied that she understands how low his cnfidence is going into this match and how serious it is to the continuation of their marriage even though tashi initially doesn't believe it's as swrious as Art is making it (until he makes her hold him to sleep). Idk how people keep missing how Art is the only instigator for that confrontation in that scene lmao. Tashi does not want to leave that man and never had any inentions to, but the thought that Art thinks their marriage is hanging on a thread terrifies her enough to go beg Patrick for help in the next scene. But carry on lol.

@@whiistlingwinds before the scene you mention about "Art making the marriage up as an ultimatum if he loses, etc." which i understand, Tashi doesnt love him, she lives through him (because her injury, her whole life and dreams were upside down) and she CHEATED with Patrick before they had their daughter (the hotel in Atlanta scene), so..
