This dish was devised by the chef at the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo in 1936 when a Russian opera singer Feodor Chaliapin requested an extra tender steak. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lpt82pKzccLKg5c.html The thoroughly sauted onion goes great with this steak.

I love the way Chef, after putting the final touches on the dish, places her arms at her side, stands proud while looking into camera, smiling, withdrawing from her creation to let it present itself, like a work of art. Whether cultural or idiosyncratic, it's an elegant gesture. Kudos, Chef! (And Francis, of course.)
Hi! I just wanted to say that I have been watching this channel for four years now since I graduated high school and I am a huge fan. This show has taught me how to cook and still stay within my budget. Keep up the good work, Francis and Chef!!
I remembered watching this all the time when I was little I am 15 and in highschool now wow how times have changed :-)
That is very interesting information. I had this steak before but never knew the origins of it. Now I know and I feel like eating it now. This is a great way to use tougher parts of beef and make it tender. Thank you!

Konnichiwa. I love you guys and subscribe to your channel. The story is interesting. Apparently, Chaliapin was in Tokyo in 1936 to make recordings in a studio with advanced technical equipment. He was staying at the Imperial Hotel. He had developed a toothache and asked if the restaurant staff could tenderize a steak for him. Thisl is the famous result....
My family and I made this the other day! It was absolutely delicious, and we're definitely adding it to our list of favorite dishes! Thank you Francis and Chef! ❤️
My cooking skills is like Roronoa Zoros sense of direction
Just made this tonight, paired it with oven-broiled potatoes and a red leaf lettuce salad. Absolutely delicious. Thank you for this.
Just made this for dinner tonight, my wife and I loved it! We used a shoulder steak and it worked just fine. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!
Chaliapin had a son, also named Feodor (1905-1992), who became a well-known character actor in films ("Moonstruck" for example).
now just add some rice flavored with plum and it would make this dish irresistable!

Because it is rather difficult to find quality sirloin in my country, I did it with filet mignon. It's simply brilliant, me and my wife been enjoying it so much with a glass of good red wine. Domo arigato!!!
Never heard of tenderising steak with onion. Have to try this one. Might put a little dab of cold butter in after the soy at the end to give it a little glaze. I've seen a chef use kiwi fruit slices to tenderise beef. Thank you Chef and Francis!
Francis is incredible for not barking up and down the house smelling that delicious meat cooking. Wow. I dont even know if i could sit as still as him.

The process of breaking down the proteins using the basher and the enzymes in onions looks like one that tougher cuts of meat can also benefit greatly from. I think I'm going to try this method with some skirt steak and see if it works!
Made this for the first time and holy crap it's delicious. Definitely a favorite easy dish to make

I love "Cooking With Dog" I look forward to the familiar music and Chef and Francis every week. Keep up the wonderful site! Also love the new series with "Francis" visiting niche shops.
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but this method of tenderizing reminds me of "cubed steak" that is popular in the southern US.
Merci pour vos recettes que je fais connaître en France grâce à vous !!!
This dish made me drool so much just from looking at it. Chef looks even prettier in her new haircut!

OMG I tried this and the meat was so tender so juicy so good couldnt believe it
Francis! This is one of the best recipes yet. Excellent technique. Delicious and delightful. Please, keep sharing these talented videos. My only question. Why don't they have you try the steak? Blessings ChefMike.
Is it just me, or does it seem like there's a new pepper grater/shaker for every video that uses one?

Very interesting cooking show I love the concept of a cute lady ,and her dog .If I had a cooking show with my German Shepherd he would have attacked or whined about the steak. You have a new fan. Domo arigato Keep on the great work

excellent video really looking forward trying it
I made this tonight and it was sooooo good!
Saw this dish on an episode of Food Wars. Looks even more delicious when you cook it. Gonna try to make this. Hope I don't mess up. Love this channel
Japan has the best beef in the world.
made this for dinner tonight, very tasty. we'll definitely use this method for steak again, but might try using pineapple or kiwi as a tenderizer instead for a different flavor.
シャリアピンステーキは、シェフの言うとおり日本の帝国ホテル発祥の料理だけど、最近はアニメ「食戟のソーマ」の影響で世界中のアニメファンの間で知られるようになってきたね。
it looks delicious!
This steak looks great! Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Tried this today with pork. Amazing.
I enjoy your channel! ^_^ Keep it up!

I've never seen a pepper grinder like that before. I wonder where you get those.
My grandmother in Venezuela used to make this steak, in spanish it is called bistec encebollado or steak & onions, very traditional in latin food. I hated it though.....

Hiii hello from Belgium here, i'll try your receipe as soon as possible :p !!!
This makes me think of cubed steak from my part of the world (Southeast USA)
This is art.
I used cubed steak, and was able to skip the pounding and cutting and still get a darn good result. Just a little friendly tip for lazy folks.
I know exactly what I am making for dinner tonight!
Thank you for the recipe chef~, I've been wanting to try this recipe from ages... those manga make this seem so tender. If only we can see you cut into the steak at the end, it would be better in my opinion
Thank you so much for the recipe! I just tried to make it and it was great! I still have a lot to practise to make it as good as yours, though ^^'
Great quick weeknight dinner! Though in my case, the beef could have benefited from more pounding to make it more tender...
easy and yummy!
Oh I've missed the first song that was played in this video! Used to be the only song Cooking with Dog used :D
I want dat blu pudding thing at the end.
Hello chef! I translated the video and description to my language, Latin Spanish. I hope it help. have a nice day!
Chef looks lovely!
