The most we got back in the day was "Black Star, Ebony and Jet" magazines. The "I'm Every Woman" Video (circa 1978) was supposed to be an homage to her different looks, but she was never given what the performers are provided Today in the way of designers and stylists - she did it all herself! Now, she just relies on comfort.

LOL! Amen to that. While my friends were tuning in to American Bandstand I was the skinny white boy funking out to Soul Train. Sly & the Family Stone was my go-to dance band while Chaka Khan was my secret crush. Her sister, Taka Boom, was damn good with the Undisputed Truth. I vowed one day I would move to Motown. Never did, but it lives on in my heart (and KZread). We were truly blessed to be young in those days!

It sounds like Stevie for sure. That hit home, the music agrees with the statement, but that vocal melody only punches like Mr. Wonder, she makes that all her own as she drifts around throughout the song, unique entrances and subtle range stabilities EXACTLY where they needed to be. I love this song

I remember Saturday mornings, rushing up to the restaurant on the Maryland DC line, and playing pinball and listening to the juke box, it had all the good guy's on it like KC and the Sunshine band, Barry White and all the other funk bands, what a great time to grow up.

Saw Chaka Khan in concert for the first time a few days ago . Been waiting so long for her to come to my City . Have liked her for about 40 years ? She did not disappoint ! Really fantastic live still . Will never forget it !

This was when Stevie Wonder was writing hit tunes in his sleep. He wrote this tune for her and it is at the top of his peak years. If you listen carefully, you will hear him in the background.

Kevin Bland Actually Chaka co-wrote this song with him. She said she just never got song writing credit, it was common for new artist back then.

I met her back in 79. She has the sweetest down to earth soul. And that smile! Enough to melt stone, lol. I was only 20 at the time. The brief moments we spoke felt like forever. Yeah I fell for her. She's had my heart since then. :)

Grew up in the early '70's...in a small town in Texas if you can believe that but talk about a time to be young... the music was awesome and the band members were in their prime. I got to see the best of the best.

Her radiance of just sweetness shines through in her performances! Love Chaka!

Every single time she sings "tell me that you love me, yeah.." I fall in love with her again. I fell in love with Chaka Khan about 6 times during this 4 and a half minute video. The way she smiles...

mowgli2071 you still have to be able to sing on pitch for PitchCorrection software, like Melodyne, to work correctly... i understand what you’re saying though, personally i don’t like the texture it adds

As a 28 year old watching this I feel blessed to have got to see her live at cross the tracks festival in the UK a fee years ago. She has so much stage presence, then and now. My children will love Chaka too ❤ TIMELESS

One of the sickest Rufus tunes ever,,, I though so when I first heard it at 10 years old, and still feel the same 50 years later... I think I when through 3 copies of this album on vinyl... Peace ✌️🎗️⚓

Summer of 74, rushing to the radio EVERYTIME this came on (which was about 9 to 10 times a day), handball, hangin' out until the street lights came on. Funk was the season: Herbie Hancock, "Chameleon", The Ohio Players, "Skin Tight" Main Ingredient, "Happiness is just around the Bend" and Rufus and Chaka Khan! MAN...what a time to be alive!!!

She is sweet, and one serious musician, ive played with the keyboard player in Nashville and talked to jr Robinson (white drummer) who was in love with her, and also in Rufus, this is not known to public lol so i figured i would impress you with that tid bit of info
