I had a similar problem with my MS241 C-M a few years ago. It was not a bad coil, but a disconnected bayonet connector on the spark plug wire. I reconnected it to the spark plug wireand it cranked right up. No problems with it, since.

thanks for the video. I've had trouble with Stihl coils, and customer service doesn't really care. I have seen several videos, where one takes out the plug, and turns the crank with (Hand drill) high RPM ( in the operating direction) This somehow clears any magnetic buildup (?). I don't know what it does, or why it works, , , but the videos indicate (demonstrate ?) that it really does work from time to time, , ,but of course, if the coil is fried, nothing would help. Much luck, and thanks again.

Brilliantly executed tutorial. No start on my stihl 011av. Have spark, but question if it's strong enough? Other video recommends buying an expensive tester where gap can be adjusted. What do you think about opening the gap on a spark plug and seeing if it will jump the wider space? How large the gap space? Saw has good compression and I feed fuel directly into carb throat. Thank you for your work and guidance. All the best.

If you have spark that is probably not your problem. Gap on your plug should be around .020". Here is a video that might help you narrow down your problem: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o6eHua-ylZzYYLA.html Let us know what you find out.

Well that was so clever how to didn't take the whole thing to bits but just slid the HT lead in/out. I've seen other vidos and it looks such a pain, but you've proved it's pointless pain if the HT cap is small enough. I put an inline tester on last night and got RED pulsing in the window! Who knows what that is??

Another way to test the kill wire is to remove it from the coil and use an ohm meter connected to the kill wire and ground with the choke/run switch in the run position. If the ohm meter shows no connection to ground then the kill wiring is not the problem.

If you have trouble with spark it is usually a bad plug, short in the kill wire or switch, a bad coil or an improperly gapped coil. Sounds like you have checked some of these. A bad coil is very common

It is difficult to be sure that it is making proper contact when trying to do it alone. shouldn't spark a little just turning it by hand, it is a lot of work when you have to put everything back together just to try it.

So you gave $50.00 for the saw and the part was $9.99 to fix it' you ended up having a total of $59.99 in the saw. I don't think you should charge yourself any $$$ for the labor especially since they threw in a free spark plug.
