Wish I'd found this video in time. I actually bought a new 261 C-M after my old saw died the weekend after Thanksgiving. Love the saw.
My chainsaws stay cleaned, and I admire people who take care of their tools. I find it relaxing and therapeutic
Thank you for this video. I’m a new sawyer with Team Rubicon and this helps a lot!!
Great video, clear and informative. Thank you!
Great overview. I've got a 261 and am about to replace the bar oil hose due to leaks. I've deff neglected cleaning the bar, you gave me a good reminder to rake that dirt out, rotate, and dress it.

Thanks, AJ! I'm glad it could help.
Loosen bar nuts first, then loosen chain tension. Your 261 reminds me of my 026 Pro. I use Purple Power in a spray bottle to clean up my saws, along with compressed air.
Excellent instructions. While I routinely clean the guide rail, I never rotated the bar position for even wear. Good point. Never use any ethanol in any small engines, I agree. Just subscribed.

Thank you! Welcome to my channel!
You don't have to loose your chain and to prevent the dust from going into your carburetor just put it in a cold start and it will close the air hole.
Haha, just bought the 261. Watched this video three times already. I feel obligated to subscribe now. Thanks for the content!

@oldSchool Millennial I have decided to buy 261c so tnx for the info...I hope it will do great for me. Will be using it for firewood,and I think as it's declared for reinforced crankshaft and piston,as well as magnesium case it will work for a long time.

Did you end up getting a 261? And if so, how's do you like it?
Good tips

Glad it was helpful!
we started using a grease pen on the stihl sprocket, to extend the bar life, even with stihls closed bearing. it just runs that much better.

Thanks! 😉👍

Thanks, Suzie!
Stihl chainsaws need grease on the clutch/sprocket cover bearing. Remove the clip and the washer, remove the sprocket and clean the inside of the clutch, put grease on the needle bearing, align the oil pump gear lever and assemble it back.
Looks like the 261 is your #1 choice when it comes to a 50cc saw.

I do like this saw but I can't say that I have a favorite 50cc saw at the moment. Check out my next video and you'll see that I switch back and forth between my saws!
@tuberocker69

The 261 is definitely my choice in the 50cc range. I really don't care for 550xp
The little hole is where the bar oil goes into the bar. The big holes are for the bar bolts. Stress that you clean the bar groove from sprocket nose to the groove end of the bar. This keeps dirt and sawdust from being pushed into the sprocket noe. I flip my bar after every three or so sharpenings. I do not flip it every-time I clean it. You can tell when one side wears more than the other. They you flip it over.
If my saw was ever that clean it would stop working.

Thanks man i just bought one of these and is was about 10x dirtier than yours here. So I was checking compression just by slowly pulling the cord and it feels fine, but there was some old gas in the tank. Could that mess with the carburetor even if i wasnt trying to really start it? Also have you yet made a video of the in depth chainsaw tune up with the ms261?
What file guide are you using in this video? I like the guide rail tool built in Thanks for the videos!

This is a Stihl raker gauge that I was using in this video. I'm not sure what the part number is but you should be able to find it at a Stihl dealer. Thanks for watching!
What about greasing the needle bearing behind the Drumm??
hello, i need help. i have a ms261, not the ms261c like one in the video. i have a large amount of play in my clutch drum and gear. the bearing looks fine. i want to replace gear (325-7) bearing and drum. the part number on MY drum says 1121, everything online says 1141. any ideas?
@OldSchoolMillennial

I'm sorry, man. Honestly, I'd take it to my nearest Stihl dealer and have them give you the right part numbers. I'm sure they'd be glad to help.
What type of socket or tool can you use on the air filter holder to change the carb!! Any help would be great

Grind down a 8mm
A paper clip is handy for clearing the path from the oil holes to the bar groove. This can get packed with the sawdust and oil. Thanks for covering the carb while you do other things. Dust and dirt don't go well with precision.

Great tip!
Hi, I just purchased a new 261C and ran about four tanks of gas through it now, I was just curious if you’ve noticed some unburned gas and oil around your decompression valve on the orange plastic? Mine seems to be leaking there, do you know of a higher quality decompression valve I could use or is that just normal? Thanks
@alx252
Жыл бұрын
Valve should not leak.
Where did you get the dogs you have on this saw?
Do i ever need to grease the chain?
Its funny my brother ran a ms290 for 25 years and he never would do any maintenance besides duct taping the broken air filter cover on and sharpening his chain. It still runs good today! I would say it was maintenance free, Lol 😂
@OldSchoolMillennial
3 жыл бұрын
Haha, it's true they will probably still run that way. I think the saws like you more if you give them a little TLC.
Forgot to mention the fuel mix man you only brought up the non ethanol gas but 50:1 is pretty good to know
How do you remove the spark arrestor
i have just buyed my first chainsaw ms 180

I see you are running the green bar and in another video you said you run the yellow chain. Is there any advantage to switching this up?
@OldSchoolMillennial
2 жыл бұрын
@@devinparry1152 I run the yellow chain in situations when I'm cutting down trees and bucking up newly fallen trees. The reason for this is that the yellow is full chisel with a sharper edge. This also makes the yellow easier to dull if it hits dirt. I use the green in dirty wood that has rolled around in the dirt because it holds an edge better in these situations. The green chain is a semi chisel. Hopefully that helps.
Nice Mccullochs in the background!! Do you use those for firewood too?
@OldSchoolMillennial
3 жыл бұрын
Yes I do. Actually, these were some of my first firewood saws. I need to give them a little TLC on the carburetors and get them out to run them with some of my newer saws. They have so much low end grunt!
I was told all the body on this saw is metal, is that correct? Definitely a selling point for me if it is
Does the 261C have an adjustable oiler? On the bottom?
@warrior4-u
2 жыл бұрын
Yes it does
I use gasoline and a parts brush to clean mine. Works great.
WHY IS YOUR BAR UPSIDE-DOWN?
@watchchannel8201
9 ай бұрын
It’s to even out wear. Totally normal
If you can read those letters upside down or the right way up, you're not driving it hard enough. Just saying.
Get a real air compressor !!!! Stijl does not recommend using air compressor for air filter!!!! And no solvent on plastic!!! Don’t put out bad information. Thanks
Bro.. please chill with the "um"s..
