Chained Rubber Band Slingshot Bands Tutorial

Спорт

One of the simplest ways to make a slingshot is using found objects and some of the things you can find lying about. You can make a really potent hunting slingshot with office rubber bands. However, not all rubber bands are the same. Today, we are going to use size 32 rubber bands made from a material called red clay or red clay 32. You could use any 32 or 64 size rubber band with the same setup. To make a band set, you will need about 30 rubber bands. First, we need to test all the rubber bands. We will stretch them with our hands to make sure they have the same stretch. If we find any odd balls or broken bands, we will remove them from the system. Once we have a set of three bundles of rubber bands, we can proceed to make one side of the band set. We repeat this process to make the other side, resulting in six bundles of three.
Now it's time to start putting it together. We grab a bundle and ensure they are not twisted. We take two bundles and loop one through the other, making sure they are not crossing over one another. We then do a larks head type knot, ensuring there is no twisting and everything is tightening up at the same rate. The key to a long-lasting band set is to snug it down as we build it, nice and tight. We repeat this process one more time to complete the other side of the band set.
Next, we need to attach the pouch. We bring the rubber bands through the hole in the pouch, making sure they are nice and even, not crossed over one another. We can tie them on using a simple larks head knot, which attaches to the pouch nicely. With the completed band set, all that's left is to attach it to the slingshot. We use two three to four inch pieces of paracord and two rubber bands to create tabs. We wrap the paracord around the slingshot, locking it in place. Then, we make a loop on the end of the fork with the band set and use the rubber bands to lock it down on each side.
The finished slingshot is ready to shoot. This band set can throw a half inch steel ball or something of similar mass at around 170 feet per second when drawn out to a 36-inch draw. If you want a heavier band set, you can always add more rubber into the system. This is a quick and easy way to make slingshots from found objects and chain rubber bands. Thanks for taking a look, now go shoot a slingshot!

    I remember building these 50-years ago. I used an olive branch fork, found bands, and a bit of pouch salvaged from some cloth I found in the house. What a wonderful memory. Thanks!

    Looks like a good slingshot for all it took to make it. This is a very similar chained band idea my best friend and I would make about 44 years ago. But good ideas can't be outdated it looks like. Great tutorial, Very nice of him to post it since there's not much monetary gain in it for SimpleShot

    Subscribed today!! I'm hooked. After seeing this vid I chained some (8)bicycle tire 'ranger bands' I even have a pseudo taper by cutting thicker ones at the fork ends. I like your paracord loop method too.Might use a stopper knot. Bike tire rubber last longer than other rubber bands and don't dry out.

    Thank you for educating us about being able to use rubber bands for slingshot bands. When I was a kid, grandpa would send me over to a local store to buy some really big rubber bands that he would cut and use like a regular flat bands.

    One time i made a slingshot from a natural wooden tree fork and i thought it was perfect i decorated it with colored tape idk why but then i had no bands so i found ways with office bands and cut a piece of leather from a watch and i kept facing problems, it wasn’t throwing stones far and the bands just kept breaking i kept on fixing it tryna find alternatives but no it kept breaking and i just gave up and thought slingshots were dumb and didnt work for me. Until my dad got me a wrist rocket then I looked on KZread and the problem was i had no bands that were actually good of course regular use rubber bands used for tying up cards or papers weren’t gonna work u need actually good material. then my extreme love obsession for slingshots came flooding on back, i lost the slingshot i while ago tho but now i have an super cool axiom ocularis with flat bands. I thought the axiom ocularis was really good better than the scout, then I realized the scout was way better though my axiom ocularis was already on its way! Then it came and i was shocked, the axiom ocularis is really cool and fun to play with and i look back at the scout and realize i dont think i would like that grip. I still wanna get one in the future tho but the internet was wrong the axiom ocularis is great its cool that I’m carrying Nathan’s signature slingshot

    Nico S that right! My great grandfather used to speak of chained rubber bands, as did most of the folks in my region if they couldn't source red innertube rubber. When I finally tried them I knew why my great grandfather spoke so fondly of them. I believe he said he would get his from the post office.

    True its all old stuff but give credit where credit is due.. I did turn people on to using the red clay #32s and I never said I invented anything. I did help re awaken the interest in these bands. Which you would not have tried with out our inspiration. Chained office bands have been in use for 150 years unless I'm older than that I cant make such a wild claim lol.

  • @simpleshot

    @simpleshot

    7 жыл бұрын

    You are correct from a functional point of view. However, petroleum products quickly degrade and break down latex. Using petroleum jelly as a lubricant would lead to premature band failure. If you are opposed to using saliva, the very best lubricant is isopropyl alcohol. We strongly do not recommend the use of petroleum jelly.
