+Igal Milchakov thanks mate. I've thought about it yeah. There's some absolutely stupid decisions in this bike that I'd kind of like to lay my boot into. But it's still a great machine for me. The problem use always time - if I've got time to do a bike review,I might as well use it on something newish that might get more hits. And going super deep on a bike I own might kind of clash with how the company sees this channel. It's not just bikes, we cover all sorts of stuff.

When measuring the slack after the adjustment with the chainmonkey (without plastic dome) it is much too loose. According to me the table is not correct. E.g. position 1 results in a slack of about 35 mm. So please calibrate the device for yourself. From then onwards it is perfect.

Tells you on the Chain Monkey packaging to "Remove the black cap before use"

So the packaging says to remove the black rubber cover over the domed nut to adjust the chain, I'm guessing with it on it's out by about 3 to 4mm.

Folks get way too excited about chain tension. Better loose than tight. Don't make it so loose it's flapping around. The crazy specs in your owners manual are just there because they have to write down something better than "don't be stupid, OK?"

+aluisious I disagree. Stretch the chain a bit and suddenly the gearbox starts feeling sloppy and there's noticeable extra lag in your throttle feel. Tighten the thing so it's back in spec and the bike feels better to ride. I reckon I can feel a loose chain by the end of the driveway.

+gizmag +aluisious I think you've both got a point. A loose chain feels like crap, but a tight chain will ruin the chain and sprockets as well. Err on the side of loose if you can't be bothered to adjust your chain down to a few mil
