Chaga friction fire.

I thought this was a simple, fun way to make a friction fire in the northern woodlands. Give it a try and have fun!

That is a neat little stool , I like the tripod stand too to mount over the fire , gives me an idea to make one. That is awesome job on getting that fire going, I may have to try that I believe I have some Polypore in my shed that I got off a birch it has the same consistency of Chaga. I really want to find chaga to make some tea and now this too lol. Have a great weekend my friend.

My first thought was how can anyone waste precious chaga. But I can see that you don’t use much.

Howdy Kevin! I didn't know you could start a fire with Chaga! I just moved to Northern Maine('the county') recently, and a new friend of mine that I've been working with for the last month gave me a couple bags of it just yesterday as a matter of fact! I was going to make some tea out of it this weekend, it's supposed to be good for you. He and his wife are selling Chaga and Fiddleheads at the Patten, ME lumberman's museum tomorrow (fiddlehead fair!). it's always a treat to watch one of your videos, always learn something new! I camped out last Saturday night on a lake at Scopan / Maine Public Lands. I paddled 7.5 miles(one way) and found a campsite. Fought the wind and rain on way down, but Sunday am was gorgeous and sunny/no wind for paddle back. Didn't see another soul out there, and no bugs!!! Was a little chilly in the am, I think that was the last 30 degree night up here, it's gotten real warm this week, 70's this afternoon. Here's to summer 2024 season my friend! 😎

Hey Kevin, great job starting the fire. Pretty amazing fire starting technique. I think all the work you put into it warranted something better than ramen noodles, like maybe a nice piece of steak grilled over the fire. Was the chaga pretty dry or had it recently been found. Also, does it matter if the brown, or black portion of the chaga is rubbed against the maple log? Keep these good videos coming. Thanks for sharing.

Pretty darned cool fire hack! Who would have ever thought, eh?! And just when I thought I had seen it all, lol. Terrific B roll of the Fiddleheads and the Eastern Newt! Good seeing you out and about in the ever-beautiful VT woods again. Thanks Kevin for sharing this nice outing and the very interesting and unique Chaga friction fire tip. ATB 🐀
