The cha-cha locks will help you master the "samba locks" in the samba later on. My guess. I know basically that there are over 5 "chasse" actions - probably 10 chasse actions- in International cha-cha, and the forward lock is one "chasse" action. Assuming that you will do it on the "2 and 3" or "4 and 1", especially when you do the 3 Cha-Cha-Chas, the details on what happens in the lock are this..... 1. Forward lead foot comes out in roughly 3rd position. 2. The trail foot - or back foot - closes up behind in roughly 4th position for the famous "cross", or "lock." 3. The forward lead foot comes out of the lock in roughly 3rd position once again. (The positions described come roughly from ballet technique.) With that, I am guessing the details of the 3 foot actions in the forward cha-cha lock, and I am thinking of this... The "pre-cross" forward - 1st step The actual "cross" or "lock" - 2nd step The "un-lock" out forward - 3rd step.

Most Latin ballroom dance experts mention "Latin cross" position for the actual "lock", which is key here also.
OK!
the feet should not be that close. and in that "little bit forward to the side" step, we need to raise up the knee so that or feet is perepndicular to the floor.
