These landscapes would work perfectly in a fractal dimension like game.

just make really cool fractal designed skyboxes with EXTREMELY high detail textures. have a bunch of different ones that play on a loop. You could create some extremely complicated looking fractal level designs, but still keep it in a box shape and easy on computing power. I am basically working on a game of this design in UNREAL engine. The story im trying to work on is a researcher in Antarctica discovers what seems like a bottomless hole where "something" pushes him in. At first its blackness, then after he sees a mandelbrot set pattern, and it is as if the character is falling into it. After awhile it becomes a 3d Fractal like design where eventually he lands at this ancient alien research facility that some other beings made millions of years ago from where every they where from to study our dimension. This research lab has lots of portals to other places, and everything from then on is extremely fractal in design. Basically the story is there where aliens that had a ship that instead of flying in space, they zoomed through a fractal design, and after millions of years exploring random patterns they finally found earth inside the pattern, and they choose to investigate, but in them investigating us, thats what created us. because the dimension they come from time is almost like a physical object to them, where they do not understand that we have a beginning and an end, we are finite. But then the player discovers that humans are the ones who eventually become the aliens, and everything is a infinite pattern, with no end, no beginning

Dude! That sounds insane! I'd love to see the game if it ever gets finished! And you have a point when you say that it would be possible to make, with some smart methods of optimization. It wouldn't be a "true" fractal, but it would still be enough for the player! :^) Also, with unreal engine's powerful graphics it could really look great. It would be cool if you could reply if you ever release the game on steam or something!

The early landscape (at 37 seconds) and the end were my favorite sections. Makes me wonder about 3-D films..and whether Cameron would consider using this tech to create worlds. On a large scale, you have to consider the nausea factor..dizzyness from the intensity and movement. Especially when the environment is evolving in time.

So, I'm just wondering if anyone has seen anyone use Mandelbulb for "environment" art and pop in 3d characters in after effects to make a more compelling story.. I'm guessing one could use camera tracking in after effects? Cheers!

Hey, a tad late but still gotta say it^^. I feel like the text in this video is almost like a direct response to the comments he got under one of his earlier works on this channel, called "The Engineers". If I understand the reason for the amount of dislikes under the video correctly, its because the video lacked "meaning" and just looked cool. I just think its really great cgi work he did there....(I mean ...this channel is called "The*CG*bros" ...)

It takes anywhere around 2-6 hours to render In Mandelbulb for around 2000 frames, Rendering is done Frame by Frame and not to Mention to add that kind of detail he surely needed Post-Effect tools like After effects to add a depth, clouds, fog, lens flare and all those so it takes around 8-10 hours for each shot

The fractal animation is awesome - the corny cliched amateur-philosopher text really sucks - get rid of it. It is very distracting and basically ruins everything. It needs better music as well - the music is too sentimental to accompany such profound imagery - even a simple rhythm would be better. Work on it - this piece could be much better.
