This is why animated shorts are so wonderful, you don’t need to speak a certain language to understand it. Colors and pictures portraying emotion are truly universal, and this was a great show of that

I agree! This was so cool and I love shorts that don't require any talking. I tried that approach with my latest comedy video. I did my best to copy traditional goofy fun animation styling but in live action form, but in the tone of cartoons from the 30's. It's about a gardener fighting a chipmunk who's destroying his garden. If it sounds like a fun action comedy to you, you can see it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKuZsJWYfNTclrA.htmlsi=08x-1nirZdp89Tu3

Poor little otter. At first I assumed something tragic must had happen to her family and she just pretends them to be with her again via the pebbles. But now I realised the truth is quite harsher than it seems. I hope she’s okay now and got herself a new loving family. Still nice though she still remembers her “previous one”.

I’m really crying in a way I’m not used to after watching this. Something in this short really cut deep. I don’t know if it’s about grief or loneliness, but it brakes my heart that she’ll never hear from her family that they love her. I wanted so desperately for her to go with the other otters and stay with them. My heart broke when she got back, because of course she would, she love them and they’re her family. But she’ll just have to go through that grief over and over and won’t have anyone there to give her all that love she gives.

this is so sad, yet to happy and inspiring at the same time! this otter has lost its family and has treated these rocks as its own family- and yet at the end when they are so happy to see them again, kinda shows a beautiful message about being grateful for what you have. the tiny rock movement at the end is the best part :)

Okay, everyone is saying this is so cute and stuff, but I don't know. To me the rocks symbolize the family the little otter has lost and is projecting them on the rocks, and when the little rock falls into the water it seems like that symbolizes how their little sibling may have drowned. I was happy when they left their imaginary family to be with real living beings, but was sadden when they came back to their "family" of rocks. Either it was to symbolize they couldn't give up the family they had created after the passing over their family, or they went to die where the family's graves where. Either way, it's sad to me, and the cheerful background and music makes it creepy.

I LOVED THIS! The art style and animation is just top-tier stunning and absolutely adorable! I also like how you can interpret this story in different ways, especially the ending. Personally, I felt like it was a story of denial and grief, desperately clinging to lost LOVED ones which could be self-harming. Progression into getting out of that harmful environment by letting others old or new into your life, recovering and in the end although you'll never forget those in the past, you can always have a new relationship to make you happy again. Such as in this case, the Otter returned missing it's lost family and feeling/seeing the smallest rock move which could indicate it has a new family of its own to watch over and care for now.

This made me choke up, it was so touching and sad. T^T I interpreted it as the otter losing his parents and younger sibling, and using the rocks as stand-ins for his former family. But then he realizes that he has to move on and interact with living members of his kind, but he still comes back after winter to pay homage to the family he left behind, too. As for the little pebble moving at the end, I interpreted it as his family still being with him in spirit, even if they're physically gone. T____T

Otters have favorite rocks I hear- it makes you kind of think that those were their lost families last and only possessions that they could project love onto. And in a way- those were gravestones. But no matter what, even in loss- they will always be with you. Even if you can’t feel them as you wish to.

GOD IM CRYING. Bloody hell, the story of loss here.. it’s stunning.. and the animation is beautiful. I’m hoping that the otter didn’t drown themselves to be with its family again.. I really hope that’s not what happened, man I’m already crying..

@@DiamondDrizzle after the stone sinking scene of the little otter, and after they watched the other otter families leave, she jumps into the same river- dismal background, and the stillness of the waters surface emphasised afterwards suggests she didn’t come back up or disturb the after.. presumably going the same way her family did. The scenes after that are almost dreamlike imo in lighting and the passage of time moves on. The otter, now with moss on her back like the rocks, is with the stones again, and one moves.. I interpreted it as almost an afterlife where the otter and their family are together again. Others though have seen it as the otter having swam out with the others and coming back to the rocks after time passes.. but it doesn’t make sense that way in my head. That’s just me though apparently..

for everyone here who is sad lets say that the family is hibernating, and soon they'll wake up and join the little otter and they can all play together and be happy. That or when the otter left she found a new family with the otter troop and they were all happy together, meaning she went back to the rocks/family and told them about her adventures! (she still loves the rocks of course, but now she has otters to play with)

I know most people here in the comments have any idea that the rocks are a coping mechanism to the loss of the otters parents. But my personal idea is that somehow there was a curse put upon the Otter's parents and their sibling and with this curse they still made the effort to know their family members are not truly gone they are still within the rocks. With that I like to think the ending of the smallest rock moving for a moment was the curse slowing breaking.

I think the parents and the babies got separated. Then the youngest otter ended up drowning (as we see with the pebble sinking scene). Bubble, the main otter is coping with her grief by adopting a group of pebbles that remind her of her family. Then I guess the pebbles adopted her back in the end. That’s just my interpretation anyways! UwU

Everybody gets a different message and that's amazing. The animation was wonderful, cutest character design I've seen so far. The message I'm getting is, it's natural to feel attached to your family no matter how different you feel, it shouldn't hold you against letting your wings soar and look for people who are more like you. You can always count on your family to be there for you to come back to.

Some humans treat some stones as some gods. But this animal treated the stones as their family. So we need to respect our parents and family as our visible gods. This film is really very emotional and heart touching. Loved it so much. Nice theme 👍🏻
