I had no problem with him leaving us for Barcelona. He made it clear over his years before at the club that Barcelona was his dream. Like as a fan my club is Arsenal, his club was Barcelona. Its a pity he went to Chelsea, however we didn't take him back on our first option as we had got Ozil (I'd rather have got Cesc back tbh). I'll never talk badly about him though, great player for us, he still talks so highly about the club.

It's kinda ironic the antipathy shown towards someone like say, Samir Nasri who was completely honest and upfront that he wasn't going to renew his Arsenal contract and left for Man City, yet Fabregas clearly engineered his move to Barcelona behind everyone's back while singing another tune to the Arsenal fanbase. He's a disingenuous little grub.
I don't blame him. Cesc was peaking and was playing with average players like Squillaci, Jenkinson, Djorou, Mertsacker, Almunia. These types of players were under pinning Arsenals success. The truth is Arsenal hadn't been able to defend properly since Sol Campbell and the 2004 disbanded.

I remember when he left. It seemed like the perfect signing. Xavi was getting old and Cesc could naturally transition into his successor. Then after three years Xavi is still the main man in Barcelona's midfield and I guess Cesc got tired of waiting and moved on. If Cesc had stayed at Arsenal for maybe three or four more years and then made the move I think 1. He'd have probably become the best midfielder on the planet by that point as that was the trajectory he was on when he was at Arsenal and 2. He'd have rightfully replaced Xavi at Barcelona like they planned and probably became a legend there.

Chelsea and Arsenal fans have to understand this that players moving towards the other side has become the "normal" thing to do. Because recently many have joined the other side. They don't have to leave their home, family remains at same place and opportunity to challenge for titles.
I’ll always be grateful to Wenger, but he was the one who also oversaw the long, depressing decline in ambition, quality 2:28 and competitiveness at Arsenal Cesc is describing here. Wenger tarnished his own legacy by being so blind, comfortable and stubborn in his last years.

Had Arsenal won that match, they'd be able to retain Henry, find a world class replacement for Pires and Campbell. Abeg stop talking about our club… man left when we needed him the most. You can say whatever but that pain will never go away.
To this day, probably my favourite Arsenal player of all time, and I've been watching since '84! It hurt when he left for Barca, but it was understandable. In fact, it was inevitable. We all knew his heart was there and his intention was always to go back. Regardless, Wenger made him central to our project at the time and tried to keep him by giving him the captaincy. It only worked for so long, but I have fond memories of the 8 years he gave us. It was a young, vibrant team which could humiliate the best at times, and we were on the verge of greatness if everybody had stuck around a little longer. In the end, it wasn't to be, but I don't blame the players for leaving. The new stadium was crippling our finances and we couldn't possibly compete for signings with Chelsea, United, Liverpool, etc. It definitely hurt even more when he came back and joined Chelsea. I don't blame Wenger for refusing first option though, as the club had moved on. I struggled to come to terms with his move to Chelsea as he hated them throughout his career up to that point, both at Arsenal and Barcelona. They epitomised everything he stood against as a footballer. He was all about beautiful football, style, creative brilliance. Arsenal and Barca embodied those qualities. Chelsea and Mourinho were the enemies of football. It made no sense. He was successful there though, and seems to have learned to love them too for it, even if it ended sour with Mourinho getting sacked for taking them into the relegation zone with his dour brand of anti-football

The need or maybe greed to have glory sometimes makes us lose the joy and true purpose of what we have been doing. - AK (I just made it up. Hope it makes sense. It's not for cesc but for all of us in general).
I don’t blame Cecs at all for leaving Arsenal, it was his choice to make and you can argue it benefited his career. As a Arsenal fan though, he left the club that gave him so much like many players did and he left Wenger who really needed him. He was by far my fav Arsenal player at the time but I have zero love for anyone that abandons the club. Leave on our terms or risk losing the love of the fans..We don’t get paid to support a club through thick and thin so we have no obligation to love any players that leave. He forced his way out the club and for me I don’t want to see him anywhere near Arsenal because of it but I understand different fans have different opinions for whatever reason.
As Gunner, it was right thing for Cesc, RVP, Henry, Ade, Nasri, Hleb & Ashley
I don’t blame him even though it broke my heart when he left. The only thing I regret is that we’re not in a good financial position to bring suitable players to Arsenal and keep our home-grown players during that time. It costs the prime time of Arsene and other players. If we had won 1-2 PL and a UCL league before Arsene’s retirement, it would be a HE for all.
Mixed feelings. The shirt thing was awful, a huge lack of respect, but at that point we were not the same team as before and everyone was leaving. It was very very unfortunate. It's time to welcome him back, I suppose.
The transfermarket is complicated. Sometimes the right team wants you at the wrong time, and sometimes the wrong team wants you at the right time.
Such a shame that a player of his magnitude never won the Champions league. I‘m sure many people would have wrongly assumed that he won it with Barça but the truth is he never did. He joined them in the summer of 2011 right after they won it and left them in 2014 before Barcelona won it again.

You're not an Arsenal fan then. Cesc went to the rent boys. Scum
Fabregas would also make a good coach for arsenal
He broke into arsenal team At 16 still member he put Stevie g on his asss with some great skill
Cesc is product of La Masia, every kids in La Masia want play for 1st Team,it's like honor...This is why Cesc want to go back Barcelona.
Do Arsenal and Barcelona have special relationship? So many transfers between the 2 teams.
Still can’t understand why we sold for so cheap. However we wouldn’t of bought Arteta. Not that I liked Arteta- I didn’t. But I know he will be one of the best managers in Arsenal history.
a great player at the wrong time for us, Arsenal. Wish he had stayed but cant blame him for leaving considering the lies of ambition we were being feed while Fab and Persie knew what the real financial situation and lack of ambition by the board. The move to Emirates and the board really drove a wedge btn players and fans. However, when the truth was gradually realized it lead to a rather unceremonious retirement of Wenger. Kronkes ( snakes) OUT.

The right time would have been the best years of his career ( which he gave us unwittingly) but thought he was giving it to Barca. No Arsenal fan should care for him
Interesting how Arteta came in to replace Cesc, but one day, it's entirely possible that Cesc will replace Arteta.
End of the day he wanted to go home. Then he went to Chelsea which again wasn’t his fault Arsenal had first refusal at the time and they turned it down. So why fans don’t like him is beyond me.

@@sfullernj Nonsense.
Easy because all top prem players make the step up to Barcelona and Madrid as the pinnacle of football. Especially him in this case..
I honestly thought Cesc would've been an Arteta-like more than Arteta is right now. Does that make sense?

if not for him leaving we wouldn't have got arteta. Everything happens for a reason
He is just another player that played for Arsenal, can't remember if he was any good.

Many players have come and gone, if they never achieved nothing for us they are not remembered, Cesc was just another player that was given too much praise that he never got anywhere else.
Not an Arsenal fan but I don't blame him for going to Barcelona, just Chelsea. He said if you ever see me in a Chelsea shirt, you have permission to kill me. Imagine he was killed by an Arsenal fan, that Arsenal fan probably would have gotten away with it
The big question will always remain why did he need to join Chelsea and not any other club anywhere else when he left Barca
Nobody blame him. We left our grief behind but don’t come to us now. We are okay now. We have got super Mikel Arteta

@@sfullernj I just hate the fact that he is trying to sneak in our Academy. We have an amazing team now who could get us Premier League and UCL. I have Bukayo Saka so why would I think about this clown now
He'd checked out at Arsenal in the last few months there. I don't blame him for wanting to go back to Barcelona and I wasn't even that bothered about him going to Chelsea.
I rate Cesc above Ozil …… Cesc was right and Wenger was frustrating not just Cesc and V Persie but also all the fans. We needed just few signings to challenge for the title but Wenger/ board were so frustrating and awful in transfers. I agree with Cesc and still support him as an Arsenal fan.
Didn’t have a problem leaving! But went on strike which was a disgrace
Arsenal gave you everything. But you didn't & We move on. Lesson learn from Arsenal is it takes time to rebuild the missing puzzles but once found you can't stop them marching forward.
This is making me sad and angry at the same time.

More frustrating because we couldn't give him a premier league and chelsea did *sigh*
Took Patrick Vieira's place at 16, let that sink in.
I’m not sure he made it on the giant murals around the stadium. If he didn’t then he’s not wanted

I mean Barcelona was his boyhood club, nothing wrong with him wanting to achieve his dream of playing for them. Like an Arsenal fan playing for another club and getting a chance to play for Arsenal, they achieve their dream. Unfortunately we had Ozil so no room to bring Cesc back into the club, timing didnt work out.

It's Wengers fault, blame that dinosaur
Self aware of him to learn & accept that he wasn’t good enough to replace their midfield…. Hence why he got there and left after 3 years…
Where does Cesc rank among all time Arsenal greats? Listen to the full episode here: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0f7dm1d
Fabregas played his best in Arsenal rather than a forward position in Barcelona. How on earth did Guardiola play him forward but not a center midfield still amazed me often. Totally restricted his playmaking and through ball passes talent.
