@Hugh Jass That's not it. He was pointing out how growers were hiring pickers without papers over pickers with papers. Pickers with papers had protested for higher wages and improved working conditions which would have led to them working in better conditions and a better standard of living for them. Instead doing the right thing, growers hired more pickers without papers. Pickers without papers play the victim with the support of greedy and tsicar (read the word backwards) Americans. Hopefully this comment stays as it seem that comments that don't support the greedy get deleted.

@@utnapishtim1039 Caesar Chavez didn't like jobs getting outsourced. Can't have unions without workers and can't have workers without jobs for them. Biden took aways jobs from thousands of union workers within 72hrs, following the inauguration. Biden also invited illegal immigrants with promise of amnesty. Now there's a fuel shortage b/c of the canceled project and a crisis at the border with a human trafficking problem all because of these things. Ur misunderstanding Chavez's concept of the union. The union is to help workers and give them some leverage for basic rights against entities larger than them. Nobody is against a union that helps workers. But the problem occurs when unions start demanding more money than what it's worth, for the profit of union heads and their lobbyists. The other problem is when unions back people like Biden and Biden turns around fires thousands of union workers. Knowing how much of an activitist Chavez was, he would've created dialogue with Trump and gone to the white house to actually discuss it. Trump always opened his oval office doors, even to the most zany characters & influencers, to hear out their ideas. We all knew Biden was a conniving jerk. He admitted openly to blackmailing the Ukrainian govt b/c their AG was investigating his son's oil company. Chavez would've caught that. Trump isn't a saint and extremely capitalist but he's never been found guilty of blackmailing a foreign govt. Or bragged about it in this case.

@@pnwresident8206 ur misunderstanding his values. Fighting crony capitalism isn't socialism. It can also just include setting laws so that govt & economic elite don't control the wealth in a way that takes away power from people and eliminates a working class. Remember gamestonks? Capitalism fighting the elite at their own game and then the government stepping in to protect the elite from the wrath of the people. When you go to socialist countries. You actually see crony capitalism. The govt & elite monopolize everything as one. Europe is not socialist. They have competition on their markets. Even more than the US. He just wants to maintain the power of the "invisible hand" (economics 101 term) so that everything flows smoothly. Getting a good wage and having proper facilities and tools provided isn't socialism. It's reasonable. Wetback is Mojado in Spanish very commonly used words in 1950s -60s. Learn the true history of the United States from the people that lived it.

The labor aspect is one aspect but I was not aware that he touched on animal exploitation in agribusiness, too. Or how he made it clear that the use of illegal labor enables that laborer to be harmed, which anyone who lives in a state with a lot of illegal laborers can see. The media makes it look like only a racist wants illegal labor stopped for wrong reasons, not that it would protect the laborer from being deliberately abused and harmed in ways they otherwise could not be. But he remembered Chávez was an selfish guy, he was looking for his own benefit because, you guys might know, they paid him to do crawls that's why he joint the Philippinos and other Asians that worked at the fields at that time. My grandpa already had his legal residence, so he wasn't following Chávez. He told us that he doesn't know why he was named as some kind of heroe activist, if he was the kind of people that used to treat "illegals" to join him or leave USA he didn't wanted to get more for his own race, he wanted more for him self. I don't care about Chávez nor his fakes marches, most people don't know the truth about him. But everything is coming out like this video, they want to sale us an image of "Mexican" Martin Luther King but Chávez is nothing compared to DrKing. I hope people who knows more share their experiences.

The illegal immigrants were ruining Chavez's program, for better working conditions, and better pay. If you ever worked in the fields or hard labor jobs, you'll understand that employers will pay the minimum wage because these types of immigrants don't know or don't care. That's the type of things that Chavez was trying to solve.

You don't get the struggle of Cesar Chavez or the UFWU if you say there was plenty of work. Cesar Chavez was fighting for more humane working conditions and better wages for American farm laborers. He was an American of Mexican decent fighting alongside new legal immigrants of Filipino descent. Ranchers exploited them with poor working conditions and pay. When they unionized and went on strike the ranchers brought in illegal workers from Mexico to strike break. Farming in this country should be more advanced but for cheep labor from south of the border.

This interview should be seen in context. He was upset that the administration and the farmers were conspiring against him and bringing in undocumented workers to replace his union members who were on strike. This would have undermined all his efforts. He never would have been able to negotiate better working conditions for the farm workers if they were able to replace the union members with cheaper labor.

Being Mexican-American doesn’t mean you turn your backs on your Mexican people, legal or illegal. Mexican is Mexican. Cesar’s strikes weren’t working, and used the common scapegoat of illegal immigration. I’m American of Mexican descent, from two undocumented Mexican parents that got residency with Amnesty Act of ‘86. Cesar Chavez’s actions and words are treasonous to the Mexican people, main reason why he’s accepted in US’s history books.

People gotta understand that there is a difference between being a Mexican American & a “Chicano”. Me for example,I consider myself a Mexican American. I’m 100% of Mexican decent but I was born in the U.S. but that doesn’t change where I come from. I will always embrace my culture and where I came from, being born and raised in U.S. will never change that. A “Chicano” on the other hand is a Mexican American who’s lost connection with his culture, “No sabo” kids.

@steve chu I’m sorry but that’s where you’re wrong my people don’t leave our country cause we’re trying to escape our culture. My people leave Mexico in search of better opportunities, that’s not us trying to escape our culture. Another thing, no one is denying the fact that we were colonized by the Spaniards but compare our culture to Spain’s you will see many differences, a lot actually. Matter of fact the way we speak Spanish is completely different to theirs. My ancestors were indigenous people and I am proud of that, the same blood that ran through their veins runs through mine to this day! We know where we’re from, we were never driven out of our country, yes we were mixed and influenced by the Spaniards but trust me we have a lot of our own culture & I embrace the U.S. cause I was born here wether people like it or not, I’m aS American as any white man, or prove me otherwise.

I never once talked bad about white people, I have no resent or anything towards them. I don’t know why me being proud of where I’m from is even a topic of argument to you. I will always be proud of my culture regardless & I will always embrace it! My families history can be traced back to Mexico for multiple generations, we’re from Mexico simple as that!

Horale that's what I'm talking about. I love being a Mexican American. It is who I am and being born in the U.S.A. won't ever change this like you say. I love Mexico too. The motherland. I'll never let my parents down for doing what they had to do for a better life for me, my bro and my sisters. The fact that my parents came to the U.S.A. does not mean they came for White Americans, honestly it had nothing to do with them. Since when did the U.S.A. mean "white people only" or it's "their country first" I don't think so. There is plenty of room. It was about sacrificing for us kids so we wouldn't have to struggle as much as they did growing up i.e. opportunity but I do have to say I don't think they thought about the fact us kids would have to deal with so much racism. It hurts when I think about it but it is what it is and like I say my parents did what they had to do for us. Now that's sacrifice! Something a lot of these kids that are born here in the U.S. don't understand. You see the reason I feel why a lot of Mexicans are racist against other Mexicans is because they're pissed/mad at their parents or they have animosity within their own family and what better way of getting revenge against their family is there? especially in the trump era? Racism! it's sad but true I feel. regardless I love the Mexican culture and the U.S. culture not so much.

I voted for Trump. Shame on Trump for not having this man's bust in the White House. Winston Churchill is cool and everything but Caesar Chavez speaks more directly to our current problems. Winston Churchill is more of a renowned philosopher at this point. He can be chalked up next to the timeless Greeks. Caesar Chavez is speaking about a current issue though that has probably gotten worse since when this was originally filmed.

Its kind of an oxymoron to fight your whole life for a cause where you demand equal rights to unionize and to be treated humane. Yet you turn around and de humanize your own brothers and sisters from across the borders.
